Hollyoaks plans two feature length special episodes Christmas time
http://m.digitalspy.co.uk/soaps/s13/...-episodes.html
About time they did something for Christmas! All the other soaps do but they never seem to! Looks like the festive season will be good in HO! But I wonder if we loose a episode? I hope not lol. Makes up for no Hollyoaks Later this year I suppose. |

I wonder if the Xmas eve episode is related to the big storyline they said about the kids coming back into Stes life.

I wouldn't be surprised if (given the time he came back) JP exits over Christmas following Carmel and Mercedes (and if rumours are correct Myra again).
I would think being Holly and Toms birthdays that they'll be involved so maybe Cindy will do something quite drastic related to her condition. Secrets and Lies probably going to be one of the gazillion affairs being revealed. |

Tbh I'm finding Ste with JP boring. It's the only HO SL I'm finding a drag to watch. But tbf I'm finding Tony/Sinead a drag too but I think that will get good when the reveal to Diane happens. |

Jp and Ste get married, hollyoaks loves a wedding around xmas
everyone who can marry is married, so makes sense Also leaves the boys with issues, Stes birthday being the day JP was raped Matthews birthday is just before xmas Jps is just after and would make sense for Stes kids to arrive |

The only time I can remember them doing a extra episode (not a hour long but a extra episode making 6 in a week) was when Sam blew up The Dog. |

I think announcing this now is really quite pointless.
It's 3 months away and they are already telling us what to expect which makes the upcoming train crash spoiled by default. Obviously JP and Ste survive and would they really be planning a wedding if Carmel and/or Mercy die. The tone just wouldn't be right. Also...................is anyone going to care that its a hour long ep in September? |

I don't really see what the point in announcing this was? I know Hollyoaks have never done it before, but hour-long episodes are just standard fare for soaps at Christmas time.

Hopefully the specials won't be late night editions so all viewers can watch.

I'm quite excited for these and I've got high hopes because when BK does a good episode they are excellent. But I wouldn't be surprised if Freddie features a lot in the new years eve one secrets and lies that's Freddie hopefully he may have a little accident with the rest of his family except Robbie with a train.

It will be an 'It's a Wonderful Life' scenario with Freddie as the focus. But the 'wonderful life' will be the life everyone has when he is gone

Ste and JP being engaged so soon into their relationship is ridiculous, if actually they get married its even more ridiculous, but Hollyoaks seem to rush and force relationships nowadays.

Nobody in HO learns - you have a wedding, you or someone you love will die

It might be an experiment to see if this format works better. It was only in the week in Dublin that Ste and Brendan actually had a proper conversation. This having 3 storylines in 22 minutes means there is so much left out in character development. They should have done this for the rape storyline so they could have concentrated on it. We could hhsve had an in depth portrait of perpetrator and victim.
I think one issue the show has is that it is restricted by what it can show in its teatime slot. There has always been some sort of late night special and these have turned out to produce some iconic moments in the show. Luke's rape was one of the most unsettling things I've ever seen on a soap. With JP's rape, you just had Finn saying 'I'm going to show you who's the real man' (or something like that) and then the door closers and in the next scene, it suddenly jumps to rape, which no one could have predicted from the context of that scene. It was almost like a 'by the way'; I only knew it was rape because the storyline had been revealed in the press. Hopefully the trial will be less wishy-washy. What kind of timeslot did Brookside used to have when it was in primetime? A slightly later slot might give Hollyoaks more leeway to explore their topics with more emotional depth rather than glossing over the reality in order to allow it to be shown in a teatime slot. |
