Listening to the Berlin Breakdown remix of Anthonio got me thinking there must be a lot more songs out there with remixed versions that are better than the original.

Anyway, here is the the original version of Anthonio;
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xpv3TBtUcTQ
It isn't bad....just your standard europop affair.

Then here is the remixed version;
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bjqwu6IhOvw
It completely transforms the song into a dreamy, hypnotic masterpiece.

Any other songs you can think of that have been transformed for the better thanks to a remix? And please don't mention any of Cedric Gervais' efforts lol.

Kelly Rowland - Work
Original Version

Freemasons Remix (ended up being the single version)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=py_PavqqOao

The difference isn't massive but I just prefer the Freemasons remix.

They're utterly brilliant, I don't understand why the big stars don't work with them directly!

I love that too, Ring the Alarm as well with the mad violins and wailing noises!

Yes! That remix is always my first response on the subject.

Oh, I'd only ever heard the club version on the radio, so didn't know it was a remix.

I don't know how many people would agree, but I prefer Steve Anderson's remix of Collide, over the original version.

With the type of music I'm into, I could be here all day.

So, here we have Marco Niemerski aka Tensnake mixing three songs and then there are the 'originals'.

TENSNAKE deep disco house set @ Mixmag Live 2014
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cyq0w_qjTbM
(Start at 27:30 mins.)

The first song 'Tensake - Love Sublime' featuring Nile Rodgers has at least two remixes that I know of.

You've got this mix.

Tensnake - Love Sublime (Jonas Rathsman Remix)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HIwPiisZ2Gg

Then you've got this one.

Tensnake - Love Sublime Ft Nile Rodgers & Fiora (Duke Dumont Remix)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=df7H-RSvcpE

Next song.

Maceo Plex & Jon Dasilva feat. Joi Cardweel - Love Somebody Else (Original Mix)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kxa4cUyXKKs

So, presumably other mixes are out.

Final song.

Name One & Maxxi Soundsystem 'One In Three'
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FurrtMv0kjU

Dub version.

Name One & Maxxi Soundsystem 'One In Three' (Dub Mix)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nHCkRtVaBWI

So, in answer to your question, it's a very difficult call.

The definitive answer to this is the 16 minute Patrick Cowley remix of Donna Summer's I feel love. One of the best 12 " singles EVER. sadly neither are with us any more.

Thinking back to the first real time when I thought the remix was better than the original was with the Dub album The Beat produced.

Dub music kind of predicted remix versions. Maybe with a little but more in the way of cutting up the music.

The Beat - Whine and Grind/ Stand Down Margaret

The Beat - Stand Down Margaret (Dub)

I forgot how much I liked The Beat. And maybe they were right about the politics as well?

Seamus Haji remix of Roisin's Overpowered. The original is great, but remix is 8mins of high-powered gorgeousness.

Primal Scream's "Loaded" is basically a thoroughly remixed and reworked version of "I'm Losing More Than I'll Ever Have" (I still love the original though)

For a straight Primals remix I prefer Andy Weatherall's "American Spring Mix" version of "Higher Than the Sun"

Kevin Shields' remix of "Mogwai Fear Satan" is amazing. Not one for the pop fans, though.

One remix/cover which is definitely not better.

Robert Palmer - I Didn't Mean To Turn You On (ORIGINAL SONG)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2YO0WyOGHjU

I DIDN'T MEAN TO TURN YOU ON (ALBUM VERSION)- CHERRELLE
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wmMwpi1iUUw

The original Cherrelle version is much better.

Here's the original version of the new song 'Comeback' by Ella Eyre

http://youtu.be/TY_h1C4bwEo

BUT.. this 'early '90s' style remix with ravey breakbeats compliments the house-driven piano riff and is marginally better...

http://youtu.be/y8TdLht_9RQ

So good, that the first 30 seconds is my new phone ringtone !
