I think my amplifier has died

I was listening to some music, switched between speaker set ups to stereo from 5.1 there was a loud pop and the amp stopped working.
It sat on a self and had good ventilation all round.

On unplugging it and powering up again, the amp turned on the leds lit up but the lcd screen was dead. On further inspection after taking the cover off it has 2 internal fuses by the power board and one of the was blown. I have replaced the blown one but I still have he same problem. no lcd screen.

Any ideas or is it dead?

Are you sure the other fuse was not also blown?

only one fuse was black the other was as normal (glass case fuses metal both ends)...I'll try replacing both when i'm home

Replacing the fuses may result in the Denon functionality coming back. However fuses do only tend to blow as a result of a failure of a component somewhere else in the unit. by replacing the fuses without curing the fault there could potentially be more damaged caused.
At this point your Denon could be dead, or it could just need repairing. A repair may set you back less than a £100 whereas a new, similar unit could be £300-400, if these prices ring true a repair is well worth doing in my opinion. The only way to find out though is to get it looked at by a qualified person.

The AVR1602 is a fair few years old now - Denon's entry model the x500 would only set them back £99 (VIP Richer Sounds), it would more than better their current model by some way, as would the Pioneer VSX323 for the same money.

Might be a good excuse to upgrade to something more current......

More morden does not necessarily mean better especially in the world of AV equipment.

I would spend a bit more for the X2000 or x4000 if you can still get it and have decent speakers.

I eventually got some fuses tried it and the T3.5 fuse blew again. I presume the problem is deeper, I can't visually find anything blown, and there's a lot of capacitors resistors etc to test .After searching on the net it seems that it has happened to other people. Therefore its gone into the loft till i can find another 2nd hand amp.. it only cost me £30 about 6 years ago so its had its £30 use.
