I'm not a fan of James, and I hope his being the ghost as the feast doesn't sour lovely Steve's time on Strictly, but has anyone looked at him live-tweeting the show? Is it a case of sour grapes or is it an insight into the machinations behind the show from an insider freed from its shackles?

Well the judges liked it lots.... It was good but really??? Oh...I just remembered is he on Eastenders?? BBC1

He tweets positive comments as well but all this does kind of chime in with our most cynical thoughts about the show.

Not really, as most people agree that Jake was very good and deserved those scores (unlike what James is implying).

About the Eastenders comment, Scott Mills and Tim Wonnacott are on the BBC too and didn't get good scores. Jake did well. Nothing to do with Eastenders. I say this as someone who hates the show too!

He has got his 1000 retweets so says he is doing the same live commentary tonight as last night, heaven help us if he does it throughout the whole series!
This man needs to move on, I guess he has already lost Ola her job for next year. Very sad.

James was fair to all the dances I thought. He said what he liked and he said what he didn't like. He was supportive to the dancers, and he was more generous than Craig, certainly, to the not-so-good. I didn't have the impression at all that he 'attacked' Jake and Janette's tango (he thought it was good); it was rather that he preferred another dance (Caroline and Pasha's cha-cha). We all have opinions.

Incidentally, Robin also tweeted that he liked Caroline and Pasha's dance best. The DS forum poll is split right down the middle between the two.

I hope James continues to provide a running commentary because:

a) it adds a bit of spice
b) as the OP says, he's highlighting thoughts we all might have in cynical moments
c) Howard Jacobson largely agrees (Independent, 12 Sept, I think)
d) I confess that I'm enjoying the thought that the producers more or less created this rod for their backs when they banned James from the studios. Now he can tweet all night

I have to say I'm a bit uncomfortable with posters directing their animosity to James through his wife, or through his marriage. That's not quite fair play. IMO

In my opinion, James was spot on with his comments. I didn't feel that he attacked Jake at all. With that awful music, too fast for one thing, there was only so much that Janette could do with it. There should have been more light and shade, perhaps more stalks, more slows than all quicks,( all too rushed and frantic for me) which is one of the comments, James had made. Definitely more into the legs needed, there was too much rising through the legs. All in all, given the difficulties of the dance, he did a great job.

Yes James probably said what a lot of us thought, but I'm not interested in the opinion of anyone who has an agenda, such an opinion will always be biased. I'm happy coming on here and enjoying all the comments, good or bad and whether I agree with them or not. SO happy SCD is back

I roughly agreed with James's comments too. Thought Jake was good but concentration was on topline and upper body movement and he needed work on his feet and legs.

Sort of agreed with James about Judy and waltz (and Len's comments) but with some qualificiations. There is no such thing as an easy or difficult dance. All dances have their demands, and these increase as you go up a level. However at beginner level it is probably easier to learn waltz choreography, and therefore concentrate on other aspects. So I was surprised that Judy didn't have a better posture. At this level we wouldn't have expected the control Len referred to, just the basics, which were not there.

no James, to you, the waltz may not be difficult, to a beginner and someone like Judy who has never danced before, it may be!! It might be classed as an "easy" ballroom but some people, myself included, struggle with it

Totally agree Olive. Choreography and timing can be kept "simple" of course, but it is hard for a beginner to dance in hold and make it look good. Its not something that you can pick up overnight. Good dancers will make it look easy but it is not. The hold, posture, poise and connection ( let alone anything else) is such a visual thing, get that wrong to start with, it will just look awful. First impressions count.
In comparision, Janette had obviously worked very hard with Jake to produce a relatively strong looking frame ( despite lack of attention to legs) and he was rewarded with good marks.

The Brad-Pitt-Of-The-Dance-World is indeed cringeworthy but I think it would be wrong either to dismiss his opinions or to treat them as gospel.

For a twitter pundit at least he's opinionated. As half-baked and poorly thought through as a lot of those opinions are, it does give his live tweeting some value if you can tolerate the irritation factor.

If what he writes tends to reflect a lot of views given in here well it's important to remember that he's just as susceptible to cognitive bias as we all are to a greater or lesser extent.

You are right, most husbands would support their wives. but I would say that is particularly true in Mr Jordan's case.
He is a very bad loser and does not like any form of criticism and that is not only my opinion, formed from seeing him in CBB but many others on this board.
His reaction was not good when he came third in that show, not good at all..

His opinions on the non dance related matters may be biases, or just his opinion, but he does know what he's talking about when critiquing the contestants in the main.

I think the issue James was raising was that Len had said it was a very difficult dance. As I say, I don't agree with the concept of easy vs difficult as it implies that you get to a stage where you have mastered the dance whereas it is a continuous learning experience, even for World Champions. Also it often comes down to horses for courses. However, having said all that, many people would argue that the Waltz is the best dance to start off with as a beginner and gives you more chance to focus on posture etc (although some people may find tango easier where you are just using heel leads and not worrying about rise and fall)

That said, Judy did seem very nervous and so hopefully she will improve as she gets more used to performing. I certsinly wouldn't have been able to perform a dance in front of lots of people after 3 weeks, no matter how intensive the practice. So well done to all of them!

How DARE he attack Her Royal Highness Queen Natalie Lowe. She is a better choreographer than he will ever be. Lets not forget he got 25 for a Waltz and 28 for a Cha Cha Cha with Denise week 1 and 5 The only dance I liked was Charleston, Paso Doble (Because Ian taught her' she would have been better with Ian TBH)Tango possibly Foxtrot but all the other dances were boring and she had NO hip action in Latin especially Cha Cha Cha, Salsa and Rumba

I do think he comes across as a bad loser (he always has on SCD) and his commentary annoyed me greatly but fair point in that he is entitled to his own opinion and twitter gives an avenue for that.

I might actually have to unfollow him though!
