There are people here drinking vodka, whiskey, brandy etc. straight.
Having half vodka and half mixer is surely better than drinking it straight. If each drink is 25-50ml of vodka straight that's better than a drink with 150ml of vodka straight

Because it's diluted and it's not going to be drunk as fast, at least not by me.

I have whisky with coke sometimes. I didn't know it wasn't allowed. Will I get in trouble?

Is it just me that thinks the OP is a bit... mad?
You bought vodka, which you knew you didn't like and you're wondering how to mask the taste when you're mixing it half and half? ![]() I don't like Scotch whisky, it is far too sharp for my taste but I don't see the point of adding all sorts to it to mask the taste. So I drink either Canadian Club Whisky or Jameson Irish Whiskey which has a softer taste, Schweppes Ginger Ale, ice, and if I really want to be bothered sometimes a slice of orange. Mwahhh!! |

Makes no difference at all, unless you are making it last for hours by taking tiny sips - and who does that? Half and half is silly if you don't like the taste of the alcohol, which is the case with the OP - that's what people are saying.
I could have 2 singles or 1 double. Or I could have a quad instead of 2 doubles. A quad in a standard glass is half & half. I know this is reverse to what the OP wants but I was replying to another post. |

I shoula just saved my £14 and gone to Tescos and bought £14/£1.40ish bottles of the "alcopop" vodka lemon 4% - it wouldn't have had the same proof but woulda been a much more pleasurable experience.
Guess I should curse my genes cos I can't stand most alcoholic beverages (darn it). And Tescos stopped doing their 80p bottle of sparkling sherry with a top that would shoot across the room when you opened it. |

Having half vodka and half mixer is surely better than drinking it straight. Many folk drink Scotch or Brandy for appreciation. If you want to add sodas or cordials you could drink any old brands. One decent measure of a good brand is better than a few smaller measures diluted with coke or ginger or whatever. In fact, I find adding those masks the potential issue of drinking too much. |

Bloody Mary is made with vodka, isn't it? Tomato juice and Worcestershire sauce would mask the taste.
A good Bloody Mary is a thing of joy and not the same as a voddy and "something else" in it to mask the taste. Here's a basic recipe. It has to have Tabasco and black pepper. http://www.bbc.co.uk/food/recipes/bloodymary_84135 |

I used to mix it with Coke, because I liked Coke...but had to use SO much to retain the taste of the Coke that I had the trots baaaaaaad after a hard night
No other hangover symptom, just the trots! Then for a while I used Sunny D...which was fun....followed by pure orange - which at least had the side effect of hitting the body with lots of Vitamin C and thus ahead of schedule scrubbing alcohol back out of the system... Finally, I settled on lemon or lemon and lime flavoured alcopops! Hell, if you have to mix something with a spirit, it should be something with an alcohol content too!

Buy a bag of mini-marshmallows.
Tip them into a sterilised kilner jar. Pour in a 750ml bottle of vodka. Leave it several days. Strain off the vodka. Try the same with 2 or 3 chillis instead of marshmallows. Just slit the chillis down one side so the seeds don't spill out. |

The Cranberry Juice thing kinda worked (along with the method of drinking it really fast) , though maybe helped by adding only a finger rather than a fist's worth of Vodka .......... now to start a thread about masking the taste of Cranberry Juice.
