When i got up from the sofa last night after watching the show - I realised that all of the cusions were still in place - I hadn't felt the need to chuck anything at the telly all through the show!
Yes it felt a bit funny - but like all shows - give it a couple of weeks and we will all have forgotten about the old duffer and the girls will have settled in to their new roles.

The show seemed a mite longer than usual to me. Then I realised why. I'd watched it all in real time instead of recording and watching later, fforwarding all of Fforsyth.

I agree it was time (well, probably long passed the time) for Bruce to quit, but other than that, the show didn't work for me at all last night. In a weird sort of way, it seemed to come across as a cheap copy of itself (Bit like when ITV copy a BBC idea but can't make it work).
I'd like to see them leave Claudia where she is, chatting to the couples, and replace Tess with a good male presenter.

I would like a Talented Male presenter to replace Bruce, put Tess back where she was and get rid of
the skeletal person upstairs, I thought Mrs Winkle was bad before.... but she is enough to frighten the crows as she is now....I have just watched the show which I had on sky+ so I could FF the dreadful ditzy one. I think the BBC have made a big mistake thinking they could do the show on the cheap....

I feel the same. It just didn't have that certain sparkle...can't put my finger on it.
Didn't miss Brucie, though I was never a hater. But Tess was shockingly bad. The gavel thing made me want to look away. And talking over the judges is a matter of manners and breeding.

Whatever Bruce's faults, I believe he was sincere when he spoke to the dancers and seemed to be genuinely unhappy at some of the judges comments.
For me, last night, the show lacked any sincerity whatsoever, it just became shouty and sort of hollow - if that makes any sense?

Fforsyth was never sincere. It was a good act but that is all it ever was, an act. Don't you remember the end of the last but one series when he let the mask slip as the dancers milled around him?
He was only unhappy at the Judges comments when they were either upstaging him or when they were getting more of the limelight that he, quite wrongly, thought was his due.
Give the girls a chance. That was the first show, the first live show! Not a one-off fill-in for the dodderer but the first show of a new series that they know that will have to carry come what may. They will soon settle down and do a good job.
Must have been hallucinating when I saw them presenting last year.

Doubt that - the comments on the unofficial Strictly FB page are very much in favour of his absence!
Its the first show of a new series with Tess and Claudia as the full time presenting team - people are watching it with their memories of Bruce still fresh in their minds.
As we get used to the two girls, and they get used to doing it full time things will get better and Bruce will become a distant memory. In a couple of weeks it will seem to most folk that the show has been this way all along (I'm old enough to remember the outrage when Lesley Judd dared to replace Valerie Singleton on Blue Peter. in the 1960s..... now they change presenters on there without a murmur - back then it was the end of the world as we knew it! Surprisingly, nearly 50 years later Blue Peter is still going strong - proving that a good and popular show is greater than its presenters!)
I think the fact that they are deliberately not using his catchphrases and doing their own entrance is a big step forward in making the show their own!

Bendymixer, SpinTurn and myself were saying we thought something wasn't right as things stand. We weren't suggesting Bruce should still be there, just that the choice of his replacement is wrong.

I like Tess but can understand that there will be people who dislike any presenter but it seems very sexist to suggest that if she was to be replaced then it must be a male presenter. Lots of names have been posted here over the years, I have not seen any that appeal to me and there have been many (Barrowman ...) who would probably make me switch off.
People will calm down and get used to the pairing but there will always be some who moan about anyone who does the job.
Like it or not, it's not the same without Bruce.
Tess is a little strange now, and Claudia is awful.

We felt exactly the same. Obviously the Bruce change has an effect, and for us we felt he was way overdue to go but the replacements just aren't really working so far.
Other things that seemed to dull the experience
- the dancers seemed to have been encouraged to shout, cheer and high five each other etc which gives it a teenage show feel
- hardly any of the dancers have much in the way of personalities to replace the (like them or not) likes of James, Vincent, Flavia. Even the two old stagers of Anton and Brendan seem muted.
- the judges are way past their sell by date...they've sort of become a parody now and we could do with fresh blood here. Len is so big headed he gets grumpy if the audience disagree (hey Len - who's show is it? The Viewers' maybe?) and his oneliners and so contrived; Bruno must be bored himself with having to pucker his lips every time and gyrate..yawn; Craig has to sit there looking miserable...gee give us a break.
- the so called 'training' videos are so staged they are just boring
Those are the specifics we feel are going wrong with it, but I also agree with others on here there's a sparkle that's missing and it goes beyond these points...perhaps it's run its course; perhaps they've all got too rich and aren't trying so hard?

Hear hear.
Seeing the first two shows made me realise what a great job Bruce did of holding it all together. It felt a little flat without him and Tess seemed totally out of her depth reading out laboured jokes when she hasn't got a comedy bone in her body.
Well, if there's one thing we all know, it's that DS members will never be happy.
Over the last couple of years, every other post has been about getting rid of Bruce, and now he's gone, the show's lost its way and you all want him back!
I, for one, am very happy. Not only have we got rid of Bruce, but we've gained Claudia full time. The show has already improved and it's so much easier to sit through without cringing every five minutes at Bruce trying to make a joke whilst screaming at the audience.
