Did Judy have a meltdown towards the end of the waltz?

I'm not 100% sure but it looked like her nerves got the better and she forgot the steps.
It then seemed like Anton intervened and did some random dancing to jolly her back into it, then they missed the ending?

It did look that way to me, but nobody commented on it, so I thought it was just me thinking that.

I wondered that at the time and have watched it again since - the ending does look a bit vague. I thought she had done better that the judges credited her up to then. Hope nerves don't get the better of her.

LOL - I thought that too - I've looked back and it was about 1:20 - it's not as bad at second viewing...

Why is she doing this?

I thought the same - she seemed to forget a couple of steps and needed Anton's help getting back into the rythym

She did go pretty obviously wrong, but I think she was so poor the whole way through it kind of concealed it.

At a loose-end?
Loves the show?
Wants to learn to dance?
Offered money?
Thought it would be easier?

I doubt she anticipated being as nervous and hesitant as she was. All the pre-show talk was her not taking instruction from a man, but then in reality she really needed Anton's strong guidance to get through the dance.

Bizarrely, I found her dance moving. Hate Mull of Kintyre. The tartan was too soon (I was convinced they'd keep that for her leaving outfit). I don't automatically adore Anton... Yet watching her lost in the dance (in the bad sense) live on TV had an emotional hit for me. It was the contrast between the needed elegance, and the wistful misty setting, and the reality of forgetting everything. Made me respect Anton.

Do you know what I mean? It was one of those human helps human moments

Ya bastard!

My comment on the live thread was 'very disjointed in parts'.

This talk of nerves makes me laugh. The poor woman can't dance. That's it. We saw her in the group dance and all knew she was going to have problems and then last night just confirmed it. All this talk of her coming out and showing us what she can do next week with a Latin dance - oh dear.

Oh and when I say the "poor" woman, I mean I feel for her, it's not her fault she can't dance.

Plus she will have Anton's Latin choreography to deal with next week. Its going to be terrible.

I would imagine it's quite a good way of easing herself into being a BBC tennis commentator, especially as her son's career is going to wind down over the next few years.

I mean, she can't be any worse than Andrew Castle.

Actually, now I think about it, I don't think it's nerves, as commented up thread, I think she can't dance [I can't either] as one thing she will have mastered in her role is mindset, so nerves won't be an issue.

I think she's done Strictly to raise her profile away from the rather stern hatchet-face we all see at Wimbledon to get some presenting gigs in the future, which is a smart move.

It was nice to see her smiling, and I'm looking forward to finding out what she's really like as a person.

Craig said something about Anton dragging her around and that's what happened a few times.

Nerves make the body tense up and make you unable to think clearly and remember routines... yeah she's not a natural dancer like Caroline but I think nerves really did play a part.

I didn't enjoy it at all last night but watching it back today I am weirdly moved by her dance. I just think her training for this and powering through her nerves is really lovely.

Nobody can be worse than him.

Was hoping she would be better, obviously a fan of the show, was she ever going to turn down the chance to be on it. Though she was not the worse of the night.

I thought that she deserved to be bottom of the leader board last night, she was very stiff, terrible posture, very little rise and fall, and yes l think she did forgot alot of the dance, Anton did well to cover up for her, can't see her improving much if i am honest, but you never know.

Yes I think she goes wrong. I don't know if she is just wrong footed (assumes a hesitation) or tries to go into the whisk early (but she's the wrong side of Anton and it would be a left whisk). Can't work out if Anton puts in extra steps. He does do a basic at that point which is a way of recovering.

Anyway, I think people do really well to carry on when things go worng, and so well done to her for keeping going (and to Anton).

I do think she can learn and improve, whereas that's not always the case.

If I had to pick either Judy or Scott to dance to save my life, it would be Judy.

(poor Scott looked right out of it last night. I noticed his hands, fingers held tight together like penguin flippers to please Craig, no doubt. He'd got little bits of peripheral info about what the judges wanted but not a feel for his dance. Is there time for Joanne to bring an improvement??)

Leave Andrew alone. He was stupendous at Dad dancing

I'm hoping that Scott's forte is in ballroom, since I'd like Joanne to stay in the show for a while (despite the fact I didn't like her choreography much last night, although expecting her ballroom choreography to be good.)

Joanne is an unknown quantity as far as training goes, she obviously loves being on Strictly and is competitive with Kevin but can she turn Scott who is obviously a complete beginner into a dancer ,remains to be seen. His confidence will probably be at rock bottom this week so will be interesting to see how she handles him. It's happened before with celebs who were pretty bad and then had breakthroughs so all is not lost. They obviously get on really well.
Judy, I think is a big fan of Strictly. She seems to have good banter going with the others on Twitter and up to last night seemed to be enjoying it. I guess it is a big reality check when you are not a performer. Not convinced that Anton is the right pro to bring her round from this and don't think she will be in for many weeks.

They really out to have pre-select auditions - can they walk? can they snap their fingers to keep to a beat? You really can't teach that.

Unless of course SCD is a blood sport.

I think it's good to have a mix of celebs tbh, otherwise I'd be too gutted about people going out of the competition early! The bbc do always seem to get a good balance between;

terribly bad
bad but kind of entertaining
surprisingly good because everyone had low expectations
decent, could win but a bit of a dark horse
so called "ringers"

you need the first couple so there's someone to go out in the first few weeks, the third are the mark benton's of this world who a lot of people take a shine to because "that's what strictly is all about," fourth is someone like dani harmer or ashley then you need "ringers" like natalie and denise without whom there'd be no reliably decent dances week to week.

got to have the light and shade. good on ya bbc!
