I doubt she anticipated being as nervous and hesitant as she was. All the pre-show talk was her not taking instruction from a man, but then in reality she really needed Anton's strong guidance to get through the dance.

Bizarrely, I found her dance moving. Hate Mull of Kintyre. The tartan was too soon (I was convinced they'd keep that for her leaving outfit). I don't automatically adore Anton... Yet watching her lost in the dance (in the bad sense) live on TV had an emotional hit for me. It was the contrast between the needed elegance, and the wistful misty setting, and the reality of forgetting everything. Made me respect Anton.

I agree with you PM, I thought it was quite moving too but then again I am Scottish and tend to start welling up and being all patriotic at the first screeches from a bagpipe!

I thought she was doing an ok job up until the moment she forget her steps and it was a shame she lost her way....

And I too thought Anton did well to guide her through the remainder of the dance. I'm not hopeful for next weeks Cha Cha but I'm going to keep my fingers crossed for her as she's such a huge fan of the show I'd like her to get a few weeks from it to make it a nice experience for her.

Yes, but they use seedings to make sure that the really great players aren't pitched against each other until the later rounds.

Judith "Judy" Murray is a Scottish tennis coach and current captain of the British Fed Cup team.

I don't suppose that any of the professional dancers male or female could beat her at a game of tennis.

We know she is a good tennis coach. Is / was she any good as a tennis player? What was her highest ranking? The first I heard of her was in relation to her son.

It was a DISASTER all the way through to be honest, her hand movements were terrible, and she made a lot of mistakes. I would only give her 4 points for the effort but I'm struggling to find any positives in her performance last night.

She has the CHA CHA CHA next week, I hope she improves.

I don't think anyone is claiming she has any claim to fame as a player. She's Captain of the British Fed Cup team. That would make her well known to more serious sports fans, regardless of the success of her sons.

I didn't say she didn't have a career of her own, I just think if she did want to move into a media career more full time (which she might not, but she *is* doing the biggest LE show in the UK) it'd be well to strike whilst the iron is hot. She's probably never going to be a bigger name fame-wise than when her son is still competing at the highest level.

Honestly? Personally, I wouldn't be able to tell you the name of the Fed Cup coach from my country (and we are probably as bad/good as team GB).

Could name you the whole squad, but not the coach.

LOL Poor Judy is not even the most talked about (ex-)Strictly tennis player/coach this week (what with Hingis winning another double tournament)

There's no doubt that Judy has a world class tennis career that is entirely separate from her sons' success and ahs a name for herself in her own right. However they (and specifically) Andy are the reason she is on strictly. The head of British Gymnastics hasn't been on the show yet and almost certainly won't be, but Louis was. Just like Penny Lancaster or Abbey Clancy or Bristol Palin in the US, they're on because of their family associations, even though they have very successful lives and careers that are not built around their loved ones.
