I do think she tries to give useful suggestions to the couples, and at least this time she has also been willing to say when she was a bit disappointed with a performance. But she does sometimes seem to stumble a bit over what she is trying to say. Though I wouldn't want her to start coming out with pre-rehearsed "wisecracks" like the others either.

Agreed. When you cut through the faff he actually gives the celebs the best advice. Out of all four of them it's his comments that carry the most weight with me.

Back on topic: I love Darcey and it's like she's always been there. Since she's been on the panel we hardly hear anything about Arlene which wasn't the case when Alisha was judging.
I agree about Bruno. I appreciate the way he also demonstrates what he means, eg when he told Steve to 'release the bulk a little more' and released his shoulders, or told Jennifer that she needed 'a little more presentation' and demonstrated elegant arm movements. These are images that would stay with me and act as reminders in future dances.

Yes, yes, exactly! It's fun watching Len avoid getting hit on the nose by the elegant arm movements too.

The only judge i like is Craig, only one who speaks any sense and scores properly.

None of the judges annoyed me this week but give it time

I quite like Darcy, Arlene was just cringe worthy and Alesha not much better!

With the exception of the very bland and humourless Darcy the judges are the best thing about this show.........I love the fact that they know what they are talking about and that comes through in a very entertaining and often laugh out loud manner.

The rest of the humour on the show ( with the possible exception of Claudia) eg the VTs before the performances is clunking, bland or just plain infantile and in no way entertaining IMO.

Darcy never says anything interesting.

Darcey has probably forgotten more about dancing than the rest of the judges put together will ever know. Fair enough, her own particular field was ballet. But imagine the discipline and work she must have put in to become widely acclaimed as one of Britain's greatest ballerinas.
She is president of the Royal Academy of Dance, Patron of The International Dance Teachers Association and on the board of Margot Fonteyn Foundation.
Awarded the OBE in 1995, the CBE in 2006. She's the nearest thing we've got to dance royalty. She remains a voice of sanity among other riff-raff, and she's got great legs.

I agree, bring back Alesha Dixon....
please no - I never understood why she was made a judge in the first place, what on earth does she know about ballroom and latin that qualifies her as a judge an insult to the professionals she was judging IMO as they definitely know more than she ever will

Darcey still doesn't seem to have established a role for herself. The other judges have established a 'character' whereas I don't get that same feeling from Darcey.

No one is denying she was one of the greatest ballet dancers but ballet is a different discipline to Latin and Ballroom . Darcey said as much when she made that programme about Fred and Ginger .

True, but wouldn't she be just as aware of things like interpretation, expression and shaping ? I think they all bring different skills to the panel. Len is the ballroom expert, taking a strict view of the required elements and not so appreciative of the theatrical stuff (faffing around) Bruno knows his ballroom and Latin, but is usually more forgiving of the more showy elements that are sometimes included to hide any shortcomings.
Craig is a bit of a faker really, he plays the tough judge but I don't think his knowledge of ballroom/Latin is that great. He's picked up a lot of course, the same as Darcey will, but he's really a musical theatre man.

This. I'm not a huge fan of Darcy but no way would I like Alesha back.

I would like to see one of the ex female professional dancers take over eg Erin, Karen, Lilia etc. At least they would know what they are taking about and would bring some much needed sparkle to the table.

I like the 3 male judges but would like Karen Hardy to replace darcey. It's nice to see Karen on scd take 2.

Indeed, each of them would bring a bouncing baby to the table, which would add to the "ooh" factor, but milky trails over their shoulders not my idea of sparkle.

Shudders

I like Darcy and the way she suddenly gets the giggles.

I also think she some times does give constructive criticism without being mean, Side eyes Craig , whom I also like.

Love Bruno, again love that he demonstrates.

Very bored of Len and his grumpy old man thing, just how many times did he tell the audience to " shuddup" and it's only week one ?

I think Len is rather tired and formulaic now, though he's essential to give the technical background-when he's bothered to.

I like Darcey, she'll loosen up as the series goes on. She gives the show some semblance of class when it has gone increasingly shallow.

Craig is fine, though a lot of his technical knowledge is blagged.

I love Bruno, delve behind the put on panto schtck and there is a lot of kind advice and he seems genuinely concerned that the celebs do their best and rectify obvious faults that hold them back...mind, I don't understand on some of the most obvious ones that the pro has so signally failed to deal with them. Posture and frame was banged on repeatedly on the weekend. I understand it in sports people and non performance people, but it is hard to understand with the RADA and showbiz background people why posture and the ability to stand upright is so poor generally with a couple of exceptions.

I don't much have an opinion one way or the other but why oh why can't she make her comments without putting 'err's' in between every other word?

We like Darcy in our house. Especially when she used French terms like Ront de jambe

Darcey might not be as talkative as the other judges but when you get someone with as good a CV as Darcey Bussell you have to take her as she is. Ballroom dance experts might not appreciate what she has done because it isn't ballroom but she is still one of the most famous dancers in this country and she takes that reputation to the wider Strictly audience. For all the complaints about her lack of knowledge, she could probably come out next week and dance better than any celeb has ever done or ever will do.

Her comments are not top class but they are good enough, certainly compared to the other judges.
Have to disagree with BIB. Ballroom experts completely appreciate what Darcey has done; very few ballroom dancers are not fans of her dancing. The problem is she has no idea about ballroom and even less about Latin and some of the things she has said to celebs regarding technique have been just plain wrong.

I'm a professional ballroom & Latin ex-competitor and now just coach, but even though I love watching ballet, and know what I like to see, I wouldn't dream of trying to judge a competition based on ballet.

Bruno can talk a lot of wibble but I would never get rid of a judge who could describe Steve in his tango as "Popeye Meets Marlon Brandon".
Don't you mean you would never get rid of his script-writer?

FUN FACT: They're all wastes of a judge.

Bruno barfs out some innuendo and makes a few comments about "hip action" without actually clarifying what he wants.

Len goes on about "faffin' abaaht" or "gurtcha and welly" or "cahmin' aaht heah and givin' it sam" but never actually criticises the technique.

Craig knows nothing about dancing and can only really mention hand positioning, fleckerls and the occasional "stuuuuumpy clooooompy footwoooooork daaaaaaaaarling" without any actual dance pointers.

And, of course, constructive criticism of a dance that you've just done and will never do again is entirely pointless anyway...

That is a good point (and one which I overlooked).
