Looks like EastEnders is regaining its lost audience. Last night alone it had a mighty 35% share. One of the highest of 2014 so far.

Excellent news and much deserved as well, the last week or so has in my opinion been much watch television and I'm glad to see the ratings reflecting that. Hopefully DTC continues with the good work even after the wedding day drama ends

Who wants to predict the ratings for the Live ep? I don't think it will be anywhere near the 25th anniversary. I reckon about 11-12m

I think by then we could be getting 8/9 million nearly every episode

It's because it's about the Mitchells and Sharon again. Also that Stacey and Ronnie are back. The viewers didn't return for the Carters throughout the year so I hope DTC keeps that in mind.

Exactly what I was about to say, you took the words out of my mouth.

Put the Mitchells (and Sharon) back at the heart of the action, and the show fires on all cylinders. It's no coincidence that EastEnders is regaining popular support now that it's dragged the Mitchells back to the forefront, just as it was no coincidence that it went to shit when they stuffed the cast full of Brannings.

It's good to see though.

I think you are right. It can't be coincidence that the Mitchell's seem to keep pulling in better viewers than the other characters. I also think putting Ronnie into Dot and Charlie's lives is a stroke of genius.

In hindsight do you think it was a mistake giving the Carters the Vic? imagine how good it could have been with Sharon and Phil running it again.

It would have been absolutely brilliant. They missed a trick not putting Sharon back in the Vic when she returned in 2012.

I agree with you guys about the Mitchells. Every time they're at the forefront the show surges in popularity. Its worst received eras from 1990 onwards have been the ones where the Mitchells were underused. The Brannings drove away viewers and the Carters didn't bring them back but the Mitchells did because they are EastEnders and so is Sharon. I've nothing against the Carters though but let's not kid ourselves they've done anything for the ratings.

I'm glad the ratings have seen improvement but EastEnders deserve a lot more.

I hope the ratings rise to over 8 Millon - 9 Million per episode by November/December.

Great stuff coming up.

I'd actually love to see the Mitchells and Sharon back in The Vic eventually. The family is such a strong unit with Phil and Sharon leading it.

Ahhh, the hurricane running into the Vic with her son and Ian having escaped from her disastrous wedding. Sparking with Kat, going down into the cellar where Dad was buried, confronting her demons. Looking after Phil's businesses while he was inside because Shirley had sent him down. Finding her place in the Square again. Getting with Phil, saying goodbye to the past. Then finding out what really happened and raising hell. What could have been.

EE should be ahead of Corrie in the soap ratings! Corrie is 3rd right now, Emmerdale is even better than it.

Disagree.
on Monday all 3 soaps saw a rise. It's just the fact it's Darker at 7/7:30/8/8:30 Last night was chilly too.

EastEnders will benefit from the darker nights,Big storylines and a little promotion as well as no soap clash.

I bet you the massive carter storyline does well.

There is an hour Emmerdale on Tuesday so the 30mins clash will Hurt EastEnders for the rest of the week.

Sharon and Phil bring an absolute timeless to everything. The fact that they actually got married is a pretty big deal. Throw in a woman scorned, adultery, a gun and a bit of revenge and betrayal and you have classic EastEnders.

Alfie's fire got the ball rolling and Linda's rape will provide a whole different kind of drama next week.

It's back.

It's great to see the show back on the up. They have been working hard since January to reverse the show's fortunes, and I am glad they are working so hard to pull back in the punters. After a few years of disgraceful complacency, I'm so chuffed to see the show on its way back to a healthier position. By feb 2015, the show should really be firing on all cylinders.

With the 80s being the obvious exception, the most successful/enjoyable eras of EastEnders have always been the ones where the Mitchells have been at the heart of the show: the early 90s, the early 00s, and the late-00s. And before anyone says Santer's era wasn't successful, the live episode attracted 17 million viewers for, you guessed it, a story about the Mitchells.

2003/04 - no Mitchells around. The show suffered.
2010-2013 - the Mitchells sidelined in favour of the Brannings. The show fell to pieces.

Now the Mitchells are once again back in business (with a little help from Sharon), there's been a notable rise in quality and even ratings. Take note DTC.
