Cooking with herbs and spices
Didn't want to hijack the other thread on herbs and spices.
Do you really think some are worth adding? I love cooking and will sometimes follow recipes but if i haven't got a certain herb/spice i'll miss it out and it still tastes great. How much of a difference would half a teaspoon of a delicate herb have made? |

Yes, I definitely think they're worth adding if you have them. For me, a pasta dish just isn't the same without basil, and coriander in a curry is amazing. Having said that, I still make them if I don't have them, but I'd know they were missing.
As to whether they're worth adding or make a difference, I'd say it depends how many you're missing and/ or if it's truly integral to the dish. No point making a recipe that calls for curry powder if you don't have any, or one that needs cumin, coriander and cardamom if you don't have any of those. If you're missing just one, you'll probably get away with it. |
