Oh interesting. That's what happened with my EE S7 but I thought it was an EE firmware thing. There's a part of me that thinks the phones are all ready for VoLTE but that the settings are incomplete.

Yes, I think it needs settings. But you can't add these yourself.

I found a way to add them on the S7 but it seems like I must be missing some settings. In the end I actually have caused wifi calling to disappear. Opps

Yes, I've just noticed the same has happened on my unlocked S7 although, to be fair, I already had wifi calling activated on my EE account through a previous phone. It's still great though and removes any last lingering regret I had about not getting the phone from EE.

Update on the Nexus 5x. All was well until yesterday when a couple of callers said that I was breaking up. They assumed I was in a poor signal area! When I switched off the wifi calling all was fine, so basically, I am still a little skeptical.

I now have WiFi calling on the galaxy s7 edge thanks to the latest update. Even though I have good signal at home, is it best to leave wifi calling on all the time or just when needed? I assume leave it on all the time but not sure how it effect battery life etc ?

It's nice to see the VoLTE call handing back to wifi when in range. Was quite surprised today when I saw it.

On my iPhone I notice no impact on battery using wifi calling. I am convinced the quality is better so I keep it turned on.

I think DevonBloke posted (few months ago now) that wifi calling did use a higher bitrate, so should indeed be better quality.

Good idea to move people back to WiFi where possible; it's all lowering the amount of data the mast needs to handle.

On the tube today and instead of the usual Virgin Wi-Fi connection I've always used before, I thought I'd try the EE SSID but despite setting SIM authentication, it failed.

It's a brand new SIM so does anyone know why it didn't work? The website suggests I'd connect to it automatically, but that doesn't happen either.

When I connect to the Virgin one, it means a pop up to connect, but then Wi-Fi calling works fine.

A major annoyance, but it would be nice to have it work transparently.

If it's a new SIM, maybe something hasn't updated somewhere within the bowels of EE or Virgin to consider it valid? Maybe the SIM hasn't received any updates it needs to have the authentication info?

This is just speculating

Just an update, EE wifi calling still works abroad free of charge using a VPN which gives you a UK ip address. I've just returned from Qatar and successfully used EE WC on my iphone 6 to receive & make calls to blighty for a couple of weeks

I found with my EE (and Vodafone) SIMs that it didn't connect the first time, but the next time I was on the Underground it worked fine, and now it's seamless.

Very Interesting, did you let your phone 'see' the Qatar mobile network at all ? If so EE's system is not smart enough to work out you were in Qatar when the WiFi calls were made ?

No, my iphone 6 was in airplane mode (but with wifi on) the whole time in Qatar. EE Wifi calling definitely doesn't work abroad (even with vpn) if you let your iphone pick up a local signal abroad, i noticed this when i travelled to New Zealand last year. So now, just before i get on the plane in UK, i put my phone in airplane mode and only take it out of airplane mode when I land back in blighty. Hope this helps!

It's only available on the EE version of all other Android and Windows devices, which can only be bought directly from us in one of our stores, online at ee.co.uk, or through our telesales team. Other Android and Windows devices bought from other retailers will not be able to support WiFi Calling.

So the Nexus 5x and 6p will work even if it hasnt been purchased through EE!

Correct, and hopefully when VoLTE is officially launched the 5X and 6P will also get supported added OTA.

What we need now is for the same on other phones, although it seems the the Galaxy S7 is also getting updates for ALL variants, so recently Three users with a SIM-free S7 got the necessary VoLTE settings.

I've had it on my non-EE 6P for a week or so and it seems to work fine. Sod's law says that I have hardly received any calls this week, so I have been phoning myself from my land line just to reassure myself that it does indeed still work.

Seems to be hit and miss still. Since leaving wifi and returning, i have no wifi calling option...

This on a Nexus? Same with mine, usually if I go to work and go from office to office etc. It gives up after a few switches off WiFi network and needs a reboot.

I must admit I haven't switched mine back on yet as when I did use it people at the other end said they couldn't hear me and would hang up. On a couple of calls I had a very peculiar situation. The number called would ring a couple of times then switch to line busy. So, sorry where my phone is concerned it has to work and this clearly has a few glitches to sort.
