I'm on T-Mobile SIMO for my main phone, if I receive a FaceTime Audio call whilst on 3G does the data usage come out of my data allowance?
It does indeed.

I was hoping there would be a carrier update with the latest ios update this morning but unfortunately not.

If EE have released wifi calling to certain corporate clients does that mean they are able to send the carrier update to specific phones? Makes me think that they are not planning to release to the rest of us for a while as surely it would create a lot more work if they did not release to all at once? Although obviously I do not know about these things.

I'm not sure where this issue of carrier updates came from as it's not just Apple products that can use it.

I thought the carrier update was from EE? My phone currently says Carrier EE18.0.

I was under the impression that wifi calling would be released to us through a carrier update, have I misunderstood?

I wonder how this would work on custom android roms, cyanogen for example, would they still be able to send a carrier update down?

Funny you say that, someone (working at EE) made a comment to me today that he doubted wifi calling would be working on any rooted phone, if true, custom roms are probably going to be a no-no.

I think the assumption is based on EE using the same type of implementation that T-Mobile US already use (with iOS) and have proposed (with Nexus 6).

Just checked with my contact at EE and he believes the same as other posters its unlikely to work on Custom roms but depends how much of the networking interface has been changed in the rom as each one is different.

So will be a case of just trying it once it is live to see how if it works on your modified devices.

EE can send out carrier updates just to specific models of handsets and by SIM card no.

Wifi calling also needs to be enabled on the back end systems and HLR my friend has said that he had heard and must stress rumours that Staff may be able to add it onto their accounts shortly. A public launch is still awaiting the go ahead but if not live by next Thurs 18 unlikely it will happen until 06/01 at least as wont have the technical support available over the holidays

I'd be interested in knowing which large corporate customers have been trialling and whether the NHS has been? If so they would have opened the ports on the Internet gateway so only local changes would be required

Even talk talk have released an app now.

http://www.uswitch.com/broadband/new...s_on_the_move/

I have used it and seems to be working great.

Would rather have the ee wifi so it works in the iPhone dialer.

Oh well. Like the rest of us I'll have to keep waiting.

Thanks for the update, hopefully there'll be a way around this if it is the case as CM11S on my OPO is classed as a custom ROM, but it came with the phone.. so it's a bit of a grey area.... Guess we'll wait and see!

Out of curiosity, how will we know we have it on android? Put it into aeroplane mode, enable wifi and try make a call?

Would think the IMS Registration state in the status menu would say registered.

That looks better than BT Smart Talk as there appears to be an option to receive as well as make calls, but I am guessing you would still be unable to receive calls to your mobile number if you were out of signal range, and what is more important to me is to be able to receive text messages when out of signal range.

I am considering giving up on EE, I realise financially the larger corporate companies are of more importance to them, but every customer should be important no matter what the size and by only releasing wifi calling to larger customers it makes me feel that EE does not want my custom.

Oh how I both hate and love (at the same time) teasers like this!

So, those of us with later model iPhones should be on the lookout for carrier updates in the near future?

Yes, but when??? EE have been saying soon for at least three months.

If it's not before this weekend, or if EE have nor released definite information by this weekend, then I'm out. Either to 3 mobile or O2, possibly on payg so I have the option of returning if EE do ever get their act together and release to the general public, but meanwhile I have paid enough money for a service I am unable to use.

It's more likely due to the fact the large corporate will have a dedicated support team to assist in the roll out and use of the product, and more importantly have agreed a non-disclosure policy if the testing was less than successful.

Before Xmas, around when they release details of end of year coverage % apparently.

I'm just not hearing anything about needing a carrier update to be honest.. but i'll ask someone i know who's using it. It may need it, but may not.

Paid for a service? They have never said Wifi Calling was available.. Also prices didn't increase because Wifi Calling was coming. And EE needs to get it's act together? ? Just the fastest speeds in the UK, one of the first to release VOLTE/LTE-A and the only one in the UK to be launching Wifi Calling, then there is the best best 3g & 4G coverage in the UK.... what Act is there to get together? Customer service & the website could be better but minor things!

Of course they are going to trial (it's not released) it with select partners who can carefully test it and have dedicated account managers to feed it back to the network guys how it's performing in real world tests using various wifi that EE could never test by themselves.

T-Mobile in the states had many an issue when they released it early, which never reflects well on a brand. I'd rather wait until it works than miss calls, have dropped calls and ISP/Wifi providers patch routers/network issues etc!

When I say paid for a service I don't mean wifi calling I mean the ability to make and receive calls and texts at all. They may be offering the fastest service somewhere but certainly not where I am, there is no 3g or 4g. In the last couple of years the signal has got worse not better as it has elsewhere.

With regards to testing we had been led to believe on here that it was being tested with corporate clients for months, that was not the way I understood the posting last week.

I am not happy giving out my details on a public forum, but I have had the discussion with EE customer services on several occasions they have agreed with me.
