Oh how I both hate and love (at the same time) teasers like this!
Sorry.

Thats good they agreed and no problem. I'm guessing you didn't take it further..
They offered me a Signal box three times but it never turned up.

The last time was just before I heard about wifi calling which was why I decided to wait a bit longer. When I first started this topic I was led to believe that wifi calling was due to be released, or at least information released, within a couple of weeks, but it is now over two months later and still no news has been released which is why I have decided I have waited long enough and now is a time for action.

That is pretty bad, I'd have suggested you took this up with the executive office and i'd suggest trying to get out of your contract if you feel let down.

My contract has now ended, which I think is part of the reason I was having problems getting the signal box (although the third person I spoke to told me it was not a problem) as they wanted me to renew first but I was not prepared to renew without knowing for definite that with a signal box I would be able to get a signal, plus I need it for more than just my home location and I was told you can only have one signal box per customer.

I did look at buying signal boxes through ebay but was told that EE would only activate them if they came direct from them.

When I had first signed up to a contract with Orange the signal was fine, it has gone downhill in the last year or so.

Didi they say if your local Orange mast was switched off during these discussions?

It has been off for maintenance work recently and was vandalised a year (it is one of the Orange trees) or so ago but I don't think it was off at the times I was offered a signal box.

I'd raise the issue with the executive office to investigate the signal issues, upgrade path they are taking in areas and sending of signal boxes. At least to get to the bottom of it all without Wifi calling being a consideration as you have been treated pretty badly it seems.

Don't get too excited as it's been available 'now' on Google results page for months already

What I was told by customer services a few months ago was to look at the coverage map for the area with 4g closest to me. They said with 4g it is fanning outwards rather than just in certain places, so the map should be able to give me some idea of when it was arriving, although that was also the same advisor that told me that wifi calling was already live so I did not know whether to believe him.

As you say wifi calling is coming, and I know with my luck the second I move away from EE it will arrive, what I might try and do is see what the cheapest EE deal I can move onto is (or to PAYG if they allow me to move and then maybe to move back again, but not sure if that's possible) and also get a payg phone, different number, with another network, maybe with 3 or O2 so I can try their wifi app while I am waiting for ee wifi calling.

Staff should be able to have wifi Calling enabled on their phones from this afternoon and the public will happen this time.

As Lord Lucan also knows I would guess that the press releases have gone out as well

Sorry, just to be clear, are you saying that the general public will have wifi calling enabled this afternoon?

Good news!

Although I'm not getting too excited since the chances of me getting this on my OnePlus One running cyanogenmod are pretty slim

This should be interesting. I've no idea if it will work.

Once it's been confirmed it's gone live and I should have had a SIM update, I'll let you know

I have a nexus 5 on stock ROM, and I don't think that will work either...

PS What on earth is a "carrier update"? Some iOS thing?

I don't have a Nexus to hand to try, but does this match up with the settings in your phone?

https://support.google.com/nexus/answer/2811843?hl=en

Followed that guide on my OPO to ask me when I make a call, but when I choose internet call it says there's no account. I guess the SIM update will create an account there (on android)

That's what it sounds like.

Surely not (although hoping it will be)...

That's for SIP calls - nothing to do with IMS (I used it years ago on my Xperia X10 for Sipgate).

On my phone (Sony Xperia Z1 Compact - other devices place the item elsewhere) pressing Settings, About, Status shows "IMS Registration State" of "Not registered" - this should be the one which changes when WiFi Calling is activated.

Yeah, IOS Only - changes MMS settings etc. Equivalent to SIM Update on every other handset in the world.

Yeah "IMS registration state" is missing from my status screen.

Some phones may hide it while the WiFi calling options are hidden (only showing those and the status when the SIM is enabled for it).
