I have an S5 purchased elsewhere which is on a sim only plan. After downloading EE firmware, texting wificalling to 150 and enabling VoWifi in call settings on my phone, I am now up and running on voice calling. I can honestly say it is wonderful to now be able to use my phone at home. Here is a screenshot of it on my phone.

I have an S5 sim free. How did u get EE firmware on it? When I try with odin I get an ext4 error. The partition file on the EE firmware is different from stock so won't install.

I used the device recovery feature in Kies 3 to return it to a stock state. I then installed the Jan release of evr lollipop 5.0 using Odin followed by the march evr upgrade. I then enabled VoWifi in call settings on the handset and texted wificalling to 150. Turned my phone off & on again and bingo it was up and running.

On my iPhone 6 Plus, I get the option to Enable 4G for Voice and Data or Data Only. It will only enable for data only, is this normal?

I don't get that option yet on my iPhone 6. But that is the option that is needed to be picked when VoLTE is around I've seen it on T-Mobile US and Verizon.

I guess that's what the menu will be like once VoLTE is enabled. Looks like you've jailbroken the phone giving access to the setting?

Some people have the setting but it sounds like an apple bug if you're on an EE account. Or it's apparently in iOS 8.3 preview.

Ah right so you MUST be running on EE firmware to get this to activate, probably why my text message wasn't working.

Why does it say "Cellular"? Is that an American iPhone?

Yeah it's jailbroken but I have no specific tweak installed that would effect this as far as I'm aware.

If you change the language to US it says cellular rather than mobile on the iPhone.

Your phone must of been an EE phone originally? The partition sizes are different between it and stock and so the stock phone won't take the EE firmware.

It was purchased from Offerbank in Dubai. It is an official Samsung phone which came new with UK firmware but not EVR. All I know is what I did worked.

Where did you download the EE ROM from?

I am thinking about getting an S6 Edge from a different contract I have and using my EE SIM with it but then need to flash the EE ROM.

Many thanks

Yeah, mine is UK EE supplied contract iPhone 6 and has always said Cellular.
Did they change this with iOS8? I can't remember but I can remember noticing it at some point.

I noticed my iPhone said Cellular too so went into settings to take a look and sure enough my language was set to "English" as opposed to "English (U.K.)". I changed this and iOS did some reconfiguring and now it calls that section of settings Mobile rather than Cellular. I have certainly never specifically changed that setting myself so my guess is that it may be the default setting, at least for Apple-supplied iPhones.

Language is set to UK
Note that it is the iPhone Language setting that ought to be "English (U.K.)" - you may have seen the Region being set to United Kingdom and assumed that was what was being talked about. Mine was set to United Kingdom for the Region but English for the iPhone Language.

Yep, you are correct.
I had changed my language to US temporarily to see if the Apple Pay set-up option appeared in the passbook app (which it does).
When I changed the region back the language stayed on English rather than UK English.
Now says Mobile.
Duh!

.
I only ever buy direct from Apple and I've never had one set to English or saying Cellular (as opposed to English UK and Mobile). Maybe you changed it to English (thinking that was the default UK setting) when going through the set up pages when you got it?

A strange occurrence, no matter how it happened though.

So what is WiFi Calling like then?
Do you have fast or slow broadband?
Does it seem stable with good call quality?

Seems very stable with good call quality. I haven't tried moving out of wifi area to see how it handles the changeover but that is not important to me. What matters is I can now use my phone at home, which is something I struggled to do before.

It won't change over because VoLTE isn't launched yet the call will just die.

It's supposed to. I'll test it out tomorrow.

Thanks Tony. Our first user of WiFi calling. I feel there should be a fanfare or something!!
Yeah, to elaborate on enapace's post, Both WiFi calling and Voice over 4G use EE's IMS or IP multimedia subsystem.
Until Voice on 4G is on and working in your area WiFi calls will simply drop when going out of range.
