Lord Lucan- Yes most broadcasts will be satellite uplinks on election night but there will be over 50 done using Live U and similar mobile network technology. The info I posted about who provides the network comes from Sky News tech team themselves https://twitter.com/skynewstech/stat...35915908796416 hopefully that link works as they are a really interesting follow.
From your link, it's not Truphone, its a software glitch identifying the EE simcards (and no mention of Lyca).

@SNG_BROADCAST @daithicam to my knowledge it's a bug in the LiveU Software - it's 100% an EE sim, not sure why it gets picked up as Truphone
So it's O2/Vodafone/EE/Three.

http://ee.co.uk/ee-and-me/network/wifi-calling

Am I being stupid, or does it not actually say anywhere that the three phones actually have to be with EE firmware/locked to EE/bought from EE direct?

It just seems to say those three phones are compatible with WiFi calling?

EE, please update your website, to explain that WiFi calling will only work on those phones if bought direct from EE!

We’ll also be making it available for new customers on the iPhone 5s, iPhone 5c, iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus over the next few weeks.

And for existing customers on these devices, you can look forward to WiFi Calling being enabled in the next few months. We’ll send you a text to let you know when you’re ready to go.
Most infuriating.

I think I've posted this before but this is a report from Sky News about their initial foray into 4G for ENG: http://cwbackoffice.co.uk/Presentati...sgathering.pdf using EE

note that they had to get onto Olaf to buy enough data to make it happen

Well, just yes. Test was 0.51 Mbps.
Weird things have been happening since users further back the line have been going over to fibre.
My download has increased substantially but about half a meg but the unload has decreased by about 0.3 of a meg.
Might need a new router as well though. Old DG834 getting tired perhaps.

But we already knew this was the case.
Jabbamk1 pointed out that existing iPhones will be done in batches, 100,000 a day.
At that rate it will take up to 2 months to do them all.

I just hope that being a business iPhone 6 user, I will be first and stuff the rest of you!!!
Hahahaha

Sorry, joking....... Where's my coat......

EDIT: I'll probably be last now.....

Something like that yeah.
The man with the stats in on leave.
I'm guessing new iPhones will start next week or the week after.
Then existing iPhones will probably be done 6 first, then 5s/5c.
I'm guessing 6 first since it was the 6 that all the hype happened over with WC.
I could be totally wrong though and they might just do them in order of signup. Oldest contracts first, newest last.
Who knows!!!

D123- One of the previous posts by Sky showed a Lyca connection but like Truphone that could just be the unit displaying the network name wrong.

I have just spoken to my contact at EE who has said staff and friends and family have started getting Wifi Calling this morning on Iphones but is very random so far some have 6 then another may have 5C. He believes it will all be completed for existing customers by May this year.

They are starting to send texts out to customers from today with phones that are live advising of the new service and how to activate on the handset alos he mentioned the issue with O2 hotspots should be fixed now at least until they decide to change their service again

Yes, it seems almost policy with networks that existing customers automatically go to the bottom of the heap. Have none of them ever read Marketing 101 that it is ten times easier to keep a customer than find a new one.

Here's what I just got from EE's top level customer services...

Good afternoon Mr Brown,

Whilst we are not advertising this, existing customers will be able to self enable the service.

This requires 3 actions, first (and I'm assuming you're an Apple customer), the receipt of a new software build from Apple. Unfortunately we are obliged by confidentiality (& the general nature of working with Apple) means that we cannot publish exactly when this is made available by Apple, however as I'm sure you're used to the software update will be pushed by Apple in the usual way reasonably soon.

Once your phone is updated, then please send a text containing the words 'Wifi Calling' to 150. This is free of charge and you will receive a confirmation text that the service is now active, telling you how to enact the 3rd action, namely how to find the service in the settings menu.

If you have any other questions about the service please feel free to contact us again.

Thanks
Tom

Just tried sending wifi calling to 150 and got the following response:

We couldn't recognise your response. Text HELP followed by 'BA' for your balance, 'UP' to find out when you are eligible to upgrade, 'CR' to make a card payment, or 'RO' for info on using your phone abroad to 150. This service is free in the UK.

Does anyone know if it's in the Beta ? I'm on the Developer program but won't bother to install it unless I know for sure

Doubt it because it's not an update like that but a Carrier Update. WiFi Calling is already in iOS 8.2 has been since 8.3. It's like how iOS had LTE support but networks still had to get the okay from Apple's side and a carrier update for it to start working.
