Oh! There you all are!

If Jake went to Anna Scher Theatre School (as reported at the beginning of the thread) then he wouldn't have automatically had dance training, they don't offer it.

Anna Scher, despite having a number of very successful alumni is essentially an after school drama club run from a North London church hall. They get a hell of a lot of graduates into Eastenders, and it's very affordable. It's not a 'stage school' in the way popular culture refers to stage school, whereas Italia Conti (where Natalie studied) *is*.

By the final, I didn't mind who won out of Natalie/Abby. Now with hindsight, I wish it were Natalie. Loved that showdance!

All I know is Jake had the wow factor. Don't care about anything else. I like him at the very least for bringing a wowser factor whoop whoop !

It makes me laugh when people get all uptight because they think that if a celeb went to some kind of stage school, then they must have credible dance experience.

I went to East 15 acting school, yes we had dance lessons. I spent about 8 weeks learning the very basics to waltz and another 6 weeks learning the very basics to Charelston. This was purely for a show where I had to dance very basic steps.

Most 'stage schools' don't teach a high level of dance unless it is a specific dance school or musical theatre school.

People on here and Mr Shimmy Jimmy were wrong then. Not sure why James would make it up, his problem is with the judges and not the dancers, except maybe Karen.

I honestly wouldn't have cared if Jake did have dancing lessons anyway. Wouldnt have made a difference to my opinion of him. Besides, him being a good dancer didn't make me think he must have had dance training. Some people are naturals.

Ringa my arse.”

Still not getting how people didn't understand the point of my OP, it wasn't too attack Jake at all. It was mocking all the ringer talk that happens every year!

Unfortunately, your OP was in close chronological proximity to a tweet-a-bollox from Mr Jordan also claiming that Jake was a ringah. It seems that this was purely coincidental but the timing was unlucky and caused several posters (me) to wonder if there was an undercurrent of the serious in your post. We (I) understand now .

Can I just add a comment here, its not about Jake and his dancing really! But the subject of whether a person is naturally gifted or not.

Ramin Karimloo, who is a musical theatre person and member of fantastic band Sheytoons (plug), is a wonderful singer and he sings the best Bring him home from Les Mis ever, has never had a singing lesson in his life. And he told me this outside the stage door so it must be true!

Also this argument that if you have done musical theatre then you have danced - you don't have to do any dancing in a musical. Not all musicals are West Side Story or Chorus Line- some of them are Camelot or Wicked.

Saw Janette after a show and she really is tiny - in every dimension. I'm 5'6 and she's much littler than me. (In every dimension )

James is a stirrer, but at least his reply to Jake's tweet was generous:

Quote:
“@mrjakedwood well sir...then you were born to Salsa...Dance of the series!
Now that really is a FACT! And we'll done @JManrara

I don't think Jake is even in the top 4 of ringers in this series (Frankie, Pixie, Caroline and Simon). He probably has some experience of professional training (as opposed to some hobby type dance classes) of moving to music in the broadest sense and he plainly has a good ear, rhythm and quick feet. More to the point he is a great example of how acting skills can be used to sell basic dancing ability to provide great entertainment and look better dancing than it actually is. Coupled with some really gifted moves from Janette on Saturday and clever choreography that has made a couple of terrific performances from these two and is what the show is about.

PS I am 'minding' the real ringers a lot less this time round because there are so many of them, at least there is a competition between them, rather than one sticking out like a sore thumb.

According to Jake he isn't any kind of 'ringer'.

Pixie has opened her own stage school, a branch of the Italia Conti franchise. Does that make her the ringiest of ringahs?

I actually can't conceive of anything ringier than previously being taught ballroom and latin by, amongst others, Kristina and Brian Fortuna as Caroline was (after she had already attended a stage school with strong musical dance tradition). Usually, it is said that however much dance training a contestant has had "I never danced ballroom"; Caroline has to write off a whole series of Dancing on Wheels as 'more of a documentary type programme'. Yeah, a documentary about learning to dance!

That wouldn't apply to most people on the planet never mind this forum.

For someone who has that natural dance ability it is odd that he hasn't wanted to have dance lessons over the years.

Perhaps he has never had the yearning to do so ..... it's quite likely. Ever heard the phrase "hidden talents", or "he/she's a natural"? Quite a few people have hitherto unknown talents

I don't think it's unusual for a man at all.

Maybe.

I had one ballroom dance lesson (one class) at university fresher's week, mainly on the look out for totty IIRC, and then regular salsa lessons aged 37 or so - and now tango three times a week.

See post #177.

Not that has made any difference.

Better still post a link.

It's only on the previous page - second post. The way the post has been written it can't all be quoted. It's the link to Jake's twitter account and the details of the tweet. Basically the information in Mirror article is from yesterday - probably picked up the lead from here!

That's exactly where I am with it. Although, I'm unlikely to support anyone who exemplifies a combination of ringer and bot - cf this year particularly, Frankie - but that's just my own foible. I don't mind if other people have different priorities.
