I agree with these comments. It can be impossible to compare different dances due to the fact that they are so very different, an up tempo latin rhythm versus a sophisticated Ballroom dance. Try comparing a fantastic jive to a beautiful Foxtrot. For me, whether a dance is "exciting" doesn't really come into play as you are never comparing like with like. The important factors will come into play, technique, posture, frame ,topline and connection if ballroom, footwork, musicality, timing etc.Connection with the audience is difficult but a real bonus, I always look to decide which contestant executes these essentials the best, whether Ballroom or Latin.

That's absolutely right. But you clearly know a lot about dance, that's obvious from your posts. You know enough to decide on those reasons. I don't. The technique has to be appalling for me to know there's anything wrong. (For example, I thought Simon was going to get very high marks on technique and I have no idea why his pivots were not great.) And we can't always even see their feet. I have to go on whether I'd want to watch it again or not - how I felt - because I've got nothing else to go on. (Actually I probably more go on who I like and who I feel I need to stick up for when I'm voting, until we're in the last few weeks.)

I am sorry if I sound a know it all, I was just trying to address the many posters that say that Pixies waltz was either "dull" or "boring" or "easy", and "no so exciting" as Jakes Salsa. Yes I agree it was not as "exciting", but the point I was trying to make is that a waltz isn't supposed to be "exciting". I thought she did a good job, in my opinion. Wish the camera's would not keep swirling around and would stay in one place so you could see every movement and the feet.

Pixie's dance was exquisite. She has wonderful extensions and superb timing.

I thought so too. Little off balance in some more difficult areas, but overall I thought it was lovely.AND she stayed in Trents right side ( could do so even more) but for week 2, very nice. More movement needed, she and Trent should be powering their way across the floor rather than stepping.

Pixie was awesome. Beautiful waltz and it was beautifully danced. I also liked Frankie, who had the most difficult choreography to deal with.

For me last night the memorable waltz was Natalie and Tim... now that was touching.

Also, my main issue with the dance was the underserved 9's....there was room for improvement and it is too early for 9's....and I would say the same about Jakes too, yes the lifts were amazing but his salsa steps were not....

Yes, I do agree that its way too early in the competition for 9's.....give them near erfect marks now and there's nowhere else to go with the marks later

Agreed; I don't have an appreciation of the fine technical aspects but I wish they'd give us the chance to study the action.


That's what I have come to expect, but who cares as didn't last year's winners do a well received waltz that had as much drive as a supermarket trolley?

Anyways,Pixie (silly name,almost as bad as Simon's hair) is easy on the eye and watching her elegantly extend her arms and kick her legs.....well,I can think of worse ways of spending a minute and a half.
Jake was fun,I applauded him myself,but the shock and awe expressed by some seems to me less about the finer points of dance critique and more like mass hysteria.

Got a feeling that "Pixie" is a nickname that she has had since childhood, seem to recall seeing that somewhere. Wish they would teach the ladies to kick correctly, would look far more elegant,

I liked Pixies waltz but I agree with the other posters It was not emotional. Unlike frankies with was for me emotional! Jake was really great. Those lifts were really good and I but scary! I thought that he was going to drop her!

Maybe because Pixie is extremely unlikeable, seems to think she's already won and was overmarked by the judges for the second week in a row? I'm not saying she's the next Ann Widdecombe, but her Jive lacked energy and her Waltz lacked emotion.

I don't think Pixie is aware of how Strictly works. She doesn't realise that her words on VT's will actually make a huge difference to how people feel about her. She is giving the impression that she can just go through the motions with Strictly just an add on to her normal life. An early dump into the bottom 2 will show her true colours. She will either not care a toss or be so shocked & mortified it will make her work harder.

I think that's the John Sid mentioned in the previous paragraph.
