Welcome to DS!

Here is a good place to start:
http://www.pcadvisor.co.uk/test-cent...blets-of-2014/

You don't state your budget, but the Nexus 10 looks the best of the bunch. I'm an iPad man myself.

Personally I think Nexus 10 looks hideous, very thick bezel and rounded corners make it look like my grandpa's TV.

£140 isn't a lot of money for a large tablet. If you can cope with a slightly smaller screen then the new Tesco Hudl 2 might be a good bet, particularly if you have Clubcard points to get a discount.

unfortunately I don't have a clubcard but it does look like a good tablet though I was looking at the hudl last year & it looked ok then so this one must be a lot better now its very tempting indeed

From the Tesco site:
Quote:
“Turn every £5 of Clubcard vouchers into £10 towards your new hudl2 and accessories. You will find your Clubcard vouchers already loaded into the checkout at Tesco direct, simply click on ‘Add Clubcard vouchers’ and select the vouchers you wish to use.”

Makes it sound like you can buy it for £65. Which isn't quite right. What it actually means is that if you have £65 of clubcard vouchers, they can be doubled up to buy it outright.

Had a play with one yesterday, its a good looking tablet. Seemed pretty snappy, seemed pretty solid as well.

And unlike the original Hudl, the store demo version isn't restricted - it has a few apps on it, including some games, to give you a feel for performance.

I am toying with the idea of the Samsung Tab Pro 12.2 but am trying to establish if it has Office or not!

I bought the Tab Pro 12.2 four weeks ago. It comes with the option to download the full Hancom Office suite for free through the Samsung App Store. It's compatible with Office 2013 in basic functionality.

Its a good spec, the only thing that slightly puts me off is that its a Intel CPU which has reportedly had some issues with some apps.

This is on offer from CPC in Preston - http://cpc.farnell.com/3q/mt1022g/ta...-3q/dp/SB05574 at £79.95. I have bought other items from CPC in the past and they generally "do what it says on the tin".

3Q is a manufacturer I have not previously heard of.

This appears to be the same product from www.scan.co.uk for £83.98
http://www.scan.co.uk/products/101-3...fi-n-android-4

• Large 10.1 Inch 16:9 Touch Screen Display
• Best MTK Quad Core Chipset
• Bluetooth 4.0 and GPS on Board
• Fast WiFi N Connectivity
• Mini HDMI Port
• USB On-the-Go Functionality
• Long Lasting 4600mAh Battery
• Android 4.4.2 KitKat Operating System
• Comfortable Ergonomic Design
• Expand Storage by up to 32GB via Micro SD Card Slot

This would be my first tablet so is it a good buy at the price or are there better alternatives out there?

Thanks

Hudl 2 runs rings round that thing in almost every practical way. Faster (about twice the speed), higher resolution/better quality screen (difference between an 8" 1920x1200 and a 10" 1024x600 screen is huge), decent range of cases available.

I realise that there is a fair price difference - £50 more for the Hudl 2, but it really is a VERY good tablet. Whereas that 3Q has a screen that wasn't even really that good 4+ years back, has a sluggish processor (benchmarks put it at roughly the level of the original 2012 Nexus 7) ....

So I would suggest that the 3Q is a false economy.

If a 'budget' tablet breaks and you get little or no support, it's not much of a bargain.

With Tesco, they would swap it out with no questions asked.

Interesting but in this area Aldi don't always have them on offer.
Lidl have sold them in the past but no current offers http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/....php?t=4831176

As for Tesco, I don't go in very often and don't have a clubcard. Have they locked down the Hudl to restrict you to a "walled garden" where you are locked down to what they want you to see? I have never bothered with clubcards or vouchers so how would Tesco respond to the magic words "How much off for cash"?

Sometimes bare faced cheek pays off!

I would choose an iPad instead of one of the many android tablets. U have to think beyond just the hardware that powers it....if u want a clean, slicker, faster, more logical way of working then the ipad (ios 8.xx software) is a better option than android. The android software is more messy, with multiple avenues to multiple features. In addition it's common for android devices to also have an extra "layer" of software from the individual manufacturer, which just makes things even more cluttered and slower.
That said iPad is not 100% perfect, but it is the next best thing, and a step ahead of android.
I would also ensure you buy an iPad with Retina display - much better, very high res screen....higher Hd than a full hd TV.
