The Ratings Thread (Part 62)
Quote:
I honestly think most people know about +1 anyway. They've used it for several years. Who's to say they won't just watch the repeats instead?

I would imagine that there isn't really much ITV can do about the start time for XF, with studio time booked and the knock on effect for Xtra F. I think that if we see XF struggle this series, ITV may keep the clashes to a minimum next year. They should protect one of their biggest shows as should the BBC with Eastenders.
Yet strangely neither channel appear willing to do it. |

I think as others have said ITV expected XF with the returnees to be well up and they did not care too much about clashes as the thought there would be no problem. That has not worked out yet but I am sure they could move the start time if they wanted - I am sure thay have done it in the past.

If they do make any changes to next years faces, I'd contradict my previous post and go for reinstating Nicole Scherzinger to the panel, ideally in place of Cheryl but most likely in place of Mel, if for no other reason than to bring a bit of fun back to the show, but also the headlines it would generate with her sat next to Cheryl. If Cheryl doesn't like it, she knows where the door is. She obviously isn't a big draw and especially not big enough to justify the salary she is getting. It is desperately lacking the fun factor this year and Nicole could bring it back- something SCD does well, and also strangely BGT when that used to be far more vicious than XF.
Has bringing Simon.Cheryl back not proven that most people are beyond caring about this stuff? The format is inevitably tired after so many years. Manage the decline for sure, but look at American Idol - they tried so many rejigs of that show, but terminal decline is just that.

THe show is losing viewers because of a TIRED FORMAT and endless OTT "DRAMAAA" created. My family didnt stop watching the XF 3 years ago because we cared about the pampered celebrities. We stopped watching it because we got bored of it. And seemingly everyone else did too except the diehards.

Ok, so X Factor finds it's audience again but Downton is just bleeding viewers. Very good for Strictly.

Wow at Downton. Though I shouldn't be hugely surprised, it's been really dull this year so far...three episodes in and not a lot has happened.
Fellowes should consider ending it soon while it's still on a reasonable high. |

Ratings seem to be all over the place recently, and its started to make me quetion the BARB system.
TXF at 7.3m yesterday, then suddenly over 8.8m the next day. Downton shedding viewers each week? |

Maybe people are bored of Downton? I watched the first episode of the new series and was bored. It's had its day, every show has a shelf life.

I did say I was expecting a boost for SCD/XF on Saturday as the autumn seemed to have kicked in but it seems it happened Sunday instead. Both now have chances to imporve their relative yoy numbers. Maybe their not dead yet then.

Good for Strictly and X Factor, slightly odd that X Factor can do so badly on Saturday and then look healthy the next day.
Worrying for Downton, it no longer looks quite as all conquering as it did. |

So The X Factor bounces back after the ridiculously OTT posts yesterday. So the judges houses format is not to blame.
The focus will inevitably switch towards Downton as today's ITV crisis topic. |

Good for Strictly, what I expected given that the results are usually slightly down on the main show. X Factor still has an audience on Sundays, doesn't mean we can ignore its Saturday rating (if anything it doing well on Sunday makes its Saturday figure look even worse, why can't they get viewers to tune in for every episode?) but does give ITV a bit of good news.
As for Downton, Fellowes has been phoning it in for years now, after he managed to get away with the truly awful second series he realised viewers would watch anything. No effort goes into writing it at all and its looks like viewers are finally realising it, even I've stopped watching and I vowed to watch until Michelle Dockery realised she could do better. I like that other dramas being down = viewers not wanting to watch, but Downton being down = there must be something up with Barb. A drama in its fifth series losing viewers isn't really a sign that there's something up with the system, there's quite a few signs there's something wrong but that's not one of them. |
