The whole point of Television entertainment is to offer the viewer an escape from reality. Not have it thrust at us because producers like to be gritty. And no, nobody forces people to audition. But the auditionees are putting themselves forward because they think they can sing, not because they want to be ridiculed. We all think we're good at something don't we?
EastEnders down to a 'T'. If TV is there to take us away from reality (which in many ways it is) why are the soaps still being watched by 6m+ each night?

TV is there to entertain. As long as nobody is getting killed or bullied on TV, then its not much of a problem. None of the judges are there to be horrible. Would Ofcom really allow TXF to continue on air if it was bullying and ridiculing those at auditions?

But let's end this subject. We are never going to agree so let's leave it there

First two I'm a Celebrity teasers up: http://www.itv.com/imacelebrity/jung...ith-our-teaser

Will be interesting to see if it survives The Million Viewer Drop*.

* not a new Channel 4 show.
Yes!! So looking forward to its return.

I don't want to say anything about its return figures just in case I curse it.

12.29million average, most watched show of the year so far excluding england world cup. More popular than last two XFactor finals.

Highly likely given its gigantic figures last year, but nothing is a certainty.

Do you not use the ratings on the DS front page to find it?

Yeah, huge. More popular than the last two XF finals. Talking of which, Simon Cowell has SLAMMED Great British Bake Off as boring: http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/tv/s215/...hallenger.html

What I would say about Buzzcocks is that part of the fun back in the Amstell/Bailey days is the combination of the regulars and the guests. You'd always know how the regulars were going to react with the guests, or sometimes they might just strike an unexpected blow at one of the regulars and make the thing memorable. There was an episode years ago where Bonnie Tyler was relentlessly targeted throughout and she loved it, with Mel C also there giving as good as she got to Simon and pulling him down a peg. It was a joyous episode.

Without long-standing regulars it's hard to create that camaraderie and engagement, but having a permanent host is a big step in the right direction. The three regulars are a pretty bizarre combination though. But again, good guests combined with the regulars will always make a great episode of Buzzcocks - Lee Mack's 2010 episode with Diana Vickers and Jon Richardson is one of the funniest ever.

So I think there's life in the format yet, but then AI am a big fan.
I wonder if HIGNFY might benefit from having a permanent host again, now. After all the guest hosts of the last twelve years, there must be at least one Merton and Hislop can get along with.

Wasn't there a change to the BARB measures or collection of data? Would this be a reason for the evident audience decline?
Not that I'm aware of.
is s/he thinking of the panel change about 4 years ago?

In regards to next years schedule, ITV are working on a 'The Sound Of Music Live' show are they not?

Instead ITV chose to put on a programme about Spandau Ballet.
Be fair, it's only thirty years too late.

Yes they are. But it will be a fairly minor project in the grand scheme of things because it is a one off show. The absolutely crucial big new projects for Itv which they will be relying on to please advetisers in the first half of next year and rate well are [in no particular order]:

Get Your Act Together
Home Fires
Thunderbirds
Bear Grylls: Celebrity Survivor
Bring Back Borstal

These are the 'Golden Five' which Itv desperately need to rate well in H1 2015. These are the shows which could potentially return year after year, hours after hours, and potentially sell well around the world. Things like Sound of Music Live or 3 part dramas like Arthur and George dont matter, they are effectively scheduling filler. No one gives a damn about them. The above Five on the other hand are huge shows for them which must do well, millions of ££ of ad revenue dependent upon.

Well we already know Get Your Act Together is a flop. It sounds similar to Born To Shine and Tumble.

Itv believe in it and have huge faith in it to air it in the prime Sunday night January slot. With that kind of brilliant slot chosen for it, they clearly are hoping for big things for GYAT. We shall see if their risk pays off...

Was Tumble a flop then? Poor Alex she will never get out of that TOS studio - no matter how hard she tries.

The show doesn't appear to have seen any benefit from being paired with Strictly. If it can achieve these exact numbers at a different time of the year away from Strictly (and boost Saturday nights elsewhere in the process) then is it not perhaps best for the BBC to take that option and see if they can find another family drama for Saturday nights?
I expect Doctor Who will drift away from autumn at some point, be it through budget problems or just through the nine months of filming every year becoming too much of a treadmill for everyone working on the show.

I wouldnt classify it as a 'new' show, it is a revival. It is an important poject for them though, thats for sure.
