And on a weeknight! The viewers are there but the shows to get them watching in their millions aren't there often.

If DMN is around he should post it, failing that Ronant might. Should be out now. It was up to around 13.5m on Tuesday when I asked Yog. Unless there's a massive boost in the last few days of timeshift viewing Bake Off will be around that figure.

Four are sticking by DOND and recently handed it a big renewal, probably more out of desperation than anything else as recent new series in daytime have fared even worse.

That said, the Alan Carr special at the weekend rated well so it's not quite dead. And I think there's an element of Four accepting that things will never be the same for them again in daytime now BBC One has ditched children's programmes. That particular ship has sailed, and boy, it was good for them whilst it lasted.

DOND will do much better than Daily Brunch. Brunch has limited appeal outside of Sunday.

But isn't it the most watched non sport programme since last year?

no question the viewers are there, you just have to look at the Top 10 to see that, only two of the 10 are sport, the rest is stuff made for TV, be it reality TV formats, or even 4 dramas. That is actually a good thing for TV.

Anyone outside of the UK, would most likely agree with Simon Cowell, GBBO does seem to be dull, and yet somehow its the biggest success of the year.

Just think all those years ago, Mel and Sue were basically sitting in the RI:SE coffin over at C4, just waiting for Death to tap them on the shoulder with his boney hand, so they could be released from the torture. (That sitution was almost as bad as Daybreak)

How times change.

One thing I'm not going to do is predict that this will be the year it begins to decline. I've done that 2 or 3 years running and been made to look clueless. Not this year. Probably more chance of it happening if I predict its highest rated series ever.

Last year *was* poor though. Only thing that saved it was that phoney Joey Essex defying the odds to only finish fourth. He was the lay bet of the century, so false and viewers saw through it. He couldn't believe it either, you could tell. But most viewers have probably forgotten how bad the 2013 series was by now.

Incredible to think a baking show can generate a peak of 14.5m, and a show with Celebs eating bugs can do the same.

To giants of the TV world that plough through the opposition.

Looking back I have to admit last years bunch were a bit uninspired. Rebbecca Adlington was a complete waste of space, a sick note for every trial. What was she doing there?

Joey Essex is just irritating. So glad he did not win.

They need to really push the casting this year. I really hope Tulisa will be in IAC.

It was with +1 and the fireworks were 13.52m without Scotland watching! So Bake Off isn't the most watched sporting event since The Jubilee Concert.

people have been paying to watch singers preform on stage, for alot longer than people have been paying to watch people bake cakes. The act is singing is something which naturally draws a crowd, it is no surprise when you think of it, that someone was able to turn that into a succesful TV show.

Meanwhile, the end of X-Factor, is (in theory) a life being changed, someones dream being achieved, winning the X-Factor (in theory) means instant fame, and a mega succesful recording career. GBBO does not offer similar.
