The BBC has announced three new Sir David Attenborough series, including Waking Giants for BBC One.

Attenborough's Paradise Birds and Attenborough's Big Birds have also been commissioned to air on BBC Two.

David Attenborough will front three new shows on BBC One and BBC Two

Waking Giants will follow the recent discovery of dinosaur bones beneath the South American desert, while Paradise Birds will see Attenborough following the avians through the jungles of New Guinea and Indonesia.

"For me birds of paradise are the most romantic and glamorous birds in the world. And this is a film I have wanted to make for 40 years," Attenborough said.

Big Birds will follow Attenborough as he meets some of the world's strangest birds.

The broadcaster has also announced details of two new landmark series: Shark and Dynasty. The former will feature the BBC's Natural History Unit as they use the latest 4K and high-speed camera technology to observe the behaviour of sharks.

Attenborough says Paradise Birds is a film he has "wanted to make for 40 years"

Dynasty - which is scheduled to air in 2018 - is a five-part series from executive producer Mike Gunton. It will follow lions, African hunting dogs, chimpanzees, tigers and emperor penguins as they strive to produce the next generation.

Tony Hall, Director General of the BBC, said: "No-one does natural history like the BBC. We've got the best back catalogue in the world and an exciting future ahead of us.

"Today I'm delighted to announce what I think is the most ambitious range of Natural History we've ever commissioned - with Sir David Attenborough going on some big new adventures for us."

Dynasty will follow different species as they strive to produce future generations

Meanwhile, Pets Wild At Heart will look at the inner wild side of the animals that have lived alongside humans for generations, while Ireland - The Wild Edge Of The World will explore the country's spectacular coastline.

Three-part series Invisible Nature: Flight and five-parter Animals Like Us - Super Spy will also air on BBC One, with three-part series The Wild West commissioned for BBC Two.

BBC Earth will be the new digital home for BBC nature content in the UK, and will include personalised interactive feature 'Your Life on Earth', which will reveal to users how much the world has changed around them since their birth.

Pleased about this. I adore these nature docs. This is the BBC at their very best.

Exactly my point, the singing thing has been done to death, it's as dull as dishwater, most of the contestants are useless and it is all about the judges  :yawn::yawn:

At least GBBO is a newish show, not the same one we have been watching for the last 10 years.

In theory being the key words there.

Apparently one of the finalists makes an appearance on C5's Hey Big Spenders! Shopaholics Exposed this evening, which says it all. Probably been trying to crack TV for years. Hunger to be famous is the key quality TXF look for, not talent.

3.9% share exc. +1.

I think that's its first ever ropey share, bearing in mind C5 as a whole has been averaging 4.2% in recent weeks (inc. +1).

The word of mouth just doesn't seem to be there with this show. Presumably you and others watched it online which doesn't help. The critics don't get behind it either. It needs support from the fanbase but it just seems destined to be one of those hidden gems with a cult viewership. There's simply no noise about it at all, and that's why it's struggling.

I dont disagree since Popstars debuted in 2001, we have had one singing contest after another, and X-Factor as a format is an old one, with precious little new about it.

HOWEVER that does not change my post, its just that like you said the format has gotten old, and GBBO is new, even if a crowd is still more likley to gather for a singer than a cake baker.

Still what is the prize for the winner of GBBO? aside from an appearnce on The One Show, and any other daytime TV show, their agent can agree?

I do think Wentworth would benefit from a drama lead-in though. Can't Pay? rates very very well but surely couldn't be less compatible in terms of demographics.

Under The Dome was up 38% with a Gotham lead-in on the previous episode we have ratings for two weeks ago (DS did not report what it got last Monday, but I'd assume a similar figure was recorded).

So next season I would air much closer to Australia and run it out of something more female skewing, ideally first run drama/comedy.

To be fair though Five haven't promoted it as much as they could have. They haven't had any of its stars over to the UK for a PR tour. If its not getting the exposer its because of that. Its a huge shame because the quality of Wentworth is up there with Happy Valley and Line Of Duty but like you say it seems destined to become a cult hidden gem.

There is no hope for Celebrity Squares if it cant even get 3million with a 7.7million Coro lead-in against Waterloo Road. Waterloo Road is piss easy competition, if a show cant rate well against it, then it's got no chance against anything else. Time to axe it.

have to be fair to the makers they have taken the core element that made PCBH so good it really is an amazing reboot. Yep we were saying in the Wentworth thread people really don't know what they are missing. I wont post a spoiler but there is one fight scene this series its one of the best ever on TV. Its like out of a film

Who cares which show has the biggest prize - the ratings speak for themselves.

Fair point. They seem to have random Neighbours stars over here every other week. Would it be so hard to do similar for Wentworth?

Yep. If there is one piece of TV you watch in 2014 make sure its episode 11 of Wentworth. Its the best thing I've seen on TV all year.

There's quite an interesting catch up show from the contestants on I player if you have time to watch it. It shows that the programme really changes the careers of some of the contestants that enter, so its really popular and can put the contestants in line for book deals with publishers etc and make them money from just appearing on the show.

Its puzzling why Wentworth isn't getting the credit it deserves. If this was a British show it would be winning BAFTAs across the board. That's how good it is.

that is partly due to the fact that, Neighbours is very much depedent on its UK viewers, more so than ever before, its stars HAVE to appear on UK shows to help the show. This is not the case with Wentworth.

Still considering the UK is a bigger market than Austraila, it seems the stars have not travelled to the UK to promote it, at least at the start of the series. It can only be good for them in the long run.

J K Rowling has confirmed there will be 3 new Harry Potter films that will pre-date the time before HP. Release dates 2016, 2018 and 2020.

ITV will undoubtedly be keeping hold of the HP rights for a while longer with this news.

Can't wait.

I wonder if Channel 5 will decide to start producing its own UK drama if the acquisitions are just as expensive and they have more financial support.

Hmm. Why do I have a bad feeling about this?

Some things should just be left alone. HP had a good run. Only reason to continue is to make more money, not for storytelling reasons.

People who go on bake off are obviously after a bit of fame themselves right? i mean, there are ways of being recognised for baking that do not involve going on TV.

there are many talented performers on XF - their record of finding success is probably higher than most music industry talent systems. they have had 35 number 1's from the show in 10 years.

i understand some people don't like this show, but the vitriol aimed at it is pathetic. the British public and the internet do not seem to like too much individual success.

Always likely I thought - does that mean 3 more books? If not it does smack of milking the franchise as you say.
