One off special?? Perhaps this a compromise; she wasn't overly thrilled at the story being fed by the controller. Plus she's got film commitments.

Sounds like a pilot.

Hopefully for Christmas when it would do brilliantly.

Just what you want over the big snooze, other people making fools of themselves playing silly games!

But it would maximise its audience and allow a quick turnaround to series in the new year if it works.

A special to air over Christmas to test audience reaction, and then a full series sometime next year if all goes well, is how I'm taking it.

I wonder where it would go, New Year's Day? I can't see it airing the same night as Miranda though, so if the second episode of that airs NYD then maybe Boxing Day or the Saturday inbetween.

Just reading through comments on Grantchester, it seems many lie me thought it was a bit too slow and the story fairly weak.

I suspect it could be facing a big drop off next week (in the region of 1m+), and New Tricks could be over 5m again next week.

Generation Game sounds like really good fun

Just looking at tonight's schedules, BBC2 could have a good evening ahead of them.
Brian Cox new show looks great, and a 3 part follow up to that Cat show last year that got unexpected high ratings.

I know regional opt-outs have an effect, it just seems that Barb have not got a grip on this.

I'll stop moaning now.”

Here's my post on the old thread about this:

http://forums.digitalspy.co.uk/showp...ostcount=12924

And a brief update while I'm on my phone:

22/09 - NI opt-out about Ian Paisley (should be fairly negligible impact)
Overnight: 4.75m (21.3%)
Consolidated: 5.25m
Crude timeshift: +0.50m (+10%)

29/09 - NI opt-out about the Troubles (again should be very small impact)
Overnight: 4.60m (19.9%)
Consolidated: 5.13m (18.9% of UK-wide audience)
Crude timeshift: +0.53m (+12%)

Now the earlier ones I could accept because of the differing competition, but those do look odd, unless the NI docs were stratospherically popular which seems unlikely. The shift was far bigger in Cilla's first week. Maybe another email to BARB is in order.

It seems to me that every time there is a regional opt out the timeshift figure goes awry.
In the last few weeks as I understand it the opt out has only been in Northern Ireland which should be a very small no. off the overnights and a very small reduction in timeshifts.”

Yes, Neil explained the workings for the consolidated figures, which made sense, so perhaps the problem is the overnights.

It's the anomaly of the 1m difference in the timeshift I find puzzling.

I missed this post before replying to Yorkie.

If anyone can do it, you can.

Grantchester last night did take a while to get going, It worked out good TV at the end.

So, looks like Grantchester wasn't the instant hit everyone predicted. It's still a good rating but it looks bad in comparison to Cilla's stellar numbers.

I know people are saying ITV need returnable dramas, but I sometimes think one-offs or limited runs work really well because people don't mind about committing to a certain run (3 weeks instead of 6).

NI had a documentary last night narrated by Liam Neeson which ran 2030-2200 and NT at 2235.At the moment NT is scheduled at 2100 in NI next Monday.

I think a non broadcast pilot is more to do with a potential series. A one off wouldn't be much of a compromise.

I agree. I don't understand why ITV aren't doing anything about it. Stuart Blackburn is losing them millions in revenue and it will continue to get worse until they get rid of him.

Being a commercial station, you'd think they'd employ the best EP they can get their hands on, and make them a fortune when ratings rise.

I can understand the BBC not being fused about EastEnders for a few years, as they have a guaranteed income anyway, but glad they've finally wised up for the viewers sake.

US ratings: http://tvseriesfinale.com/tv-show/mo...corpion-34261/

Gotham slips another 10% to a 2.5 but Sleepy Hollow was steady with a 1.7 on Fox, Scorpion took a big week 3 drop of 20% to also get a 2.5 on CBS with NCIS LA posting more disappointing numbers after with just a 1.6. Everything else inched down elsewhere, while on CW The Originals returned on a new day with a 0.7 while 30% down on their season 1 premier that isn't a bad number for what is a difficult slot.

Edit to add Sunday Finals: http://tvbythenumbers.zap2it.com/201...d-down/311599/

Great result for OUAT to just be down 0.4 from its premier and with a 3.3 is right up their with Scandal and HTGAWM, Resurrection looks better with a 2.0 but has little breathing space.

Sometimes channels need hits full stop whether they are miniseries or returnable dramas. The Widower, Cilla and The 7.39 rated better than some returning dramas.

Coronation street does have a big couple of weeks to come so it will be interesting to see if it rises.
I wonder if Eastenders will beat Corrie on Christmas day. I have a felling it will as they doesn't seem any big plots happening in Corrie in December and Corries ratings are on a downward trajectory while Eastenders are on the up. Depends on the schedule through. if Christmas EE faces anything other than the soaps or Downton it will beat Corrie as Corrie will presumably face Strictly or Call the Midwife which have a larger crossover.

Doesn't EE usually beat Corrie on Christmas Day anyway regardless of storylines?

- Russell Howard's Good News returns Thursday 23rd at 10pm, on BBC Two.

Last year Corrie was slightly ahead, but in recent years EE is normally ahead on Christmas Day. The consolidated ratings since 2008...

Spoiler
2008
Coronation Street at 7pm: 7.98m
EastEnders at 8pm: 11.11m
EastEnders at 9pm: 11.34m

2009
Coronation Street at 7pm: 8.72m
EastEnders at 8pm: 11.67m

2010
Coronation Street at 7pm: 10.40m
EastEnders at 8:05pm: 12.61m

2011
Coronation Street at 8pm: 10.51m [10.82m with +1]
EastEnders at 9pm: 11.33m

2012
Coronation Street at 7:30pm: 9.84m [less than 323k on +1]
EastEnders at 8:45pm: 11.31m

2013
Coronation Street at 7:30pm: 9.40m [9.83m with +1]
EastEnders at 8:30pm: 9.36m

2013 is clearly a massive anomaly with EE having a very weak year and down ~2m on its regular Christmas Day figure, which allowed Corrie to go ahead slightly. EE is normally quite far ahead in the ratings.

Well that will be interesting. If its fully networked next week and the timeshifts go back up to 1m+ it would be very indicative.

Most of the time yes, EE is usually miles ahead even if Corrie is in the lead all the rest of the year, hence why when Corrie gets the higher figure it is so rare and worthy of comment.
