This was always the big criticism of The Voice ie that people were only interested in the auditions and not the lives. While XF is still bigger than TV it seems that is now suffering in the same way.

It was still the weakest episode of the series (although I wasn't a fan of Kill The Moon), but perhaps appealed to a family audience rather than a Whovian!”

I thought it was perfectly fine but that can seem like a disappointment with DW these days. As I said last night though everyone will have different favourites and eps they dont like. I liked Kill The Moon but would be very happy never to see Robot of Sherwood ever again.

When comparing it to 2010 or even 2011 it's worth remembering that BBC One always ensured that Strictly finished by 8pm so there was little to no overlap. That's certainly dragging the live show figure down slightly compared to the audition shows.

Saying that, I just don't think people have acts who they can invest in this year. They're relatively decent but, with Andrea being dragged back towards the pack, there's no one really standing out. It's annoying because, as said, the first live episode showed potential this year but the standard has slipped since.

Isnt the word 'bland' just like last year?

A couple of fun acts have gone but the current crop are pretty decent - the problem is that the past couple of weeks song choices have been rubbish and made the acts look bland.

That 231k (1.3%) is the lowest number for a Sky Premier League game in many years, since at least 2009.

I'm trying to find out when exactly, but I'm not succeeding...

21.30 Mrs. Brown's Boys

Which would be some schedule. ITV would probably air an hour long Coronation Street at 8pm which would hurt The Voice slightly but considering the state Coronation Street is in at the moment...”

I think The Voice would be fine against Corrie on NYD if it were sandwiched between EE and Mrs Brown's Boys. Although 90 mins is too long. It should be only be 60 minutes on NYD, then 90 mins from the second episode.

How many Christmas episodes are there of Miranda? If there are two could they air one at 9pm on New Years Day?

Kinda hard when you have dredged the well every year for the last 10 or so years.

With the numbers dropping for TXF, I wonder if the BBC are going to be worried how audience interest will be when The Voice returns.

It is interesting to see Channel 5 now has some Boxing that rates good for them.

She said 2 more eps so we would assume they will film them together.

As Dancc noted, 600k/2.9% is NOT a good rating at all for the boxing. It was on quite early though.

That's a good point, X Factor is getting similar to The Voice now in that people watch for the auditions. They used to stay after that.

Even from around 2011 some of the clashes with Strictly were minimal and X Factor still did well. But the live shows always dipped. This year I think is a dull bunch of finalists in general. The arrangements of songs and staging feels a bit off to me as well.

6.00 The Noel Edmonds Saturday Roadshow
6.45 Bob's Full House

7.45 Hearts of Gold

I can get access to some weekly official ratings charts in the Guardian but only from 1991. I don't know if Lewie would be able to get the above? BARB didn't calculate shares until 1992 I think so we'd have to look at the volume only.

You wouldn't get Snooker on BBC One these days apart from the odd Saturday afternoon.

They're just trying to manufacture their past successes rather than letting something new unfold. The whole thing is so transparent now and thats probably why the ratings fall so much by the lives.

Sadly not The BBC 1 top 10 in 1988 (literally for every week) was taken up by EastEnders and Neighbours.

DW back over 5 million, which is good, however, it could do a lot better if it wasn't facing TXF. Yet the overnights don't tell the whole story, you can add on 2 million with timeshift, and then the show is right up there with the likes of EE, which doesn't timeshift much.
I totally agree with your comments about SCD and TXF. Watching some of SCD last night, it was exciting and fast paced and for an 11 year old show, shows little sign of flagging. OTOH TXF is flagging now, while 7.5 million is still good, this is a 40 per cent fall on its 2009 high and no amount of exclusives in its PR mag, The Sun, seems to be making any difference. ( Most of its male readership will skip to the football.)

21 - 2.7m (12%) - Celebrity Squares... (NEW)

Every single returning show down year on year besides Celebrity Chase. And even that will probably end up down y-o-y, if recent episodes are anything to do by, once the series is over. Some fairly strange ratings for their shows recently - for example The Jonathan Ross Show was getting 3.5m (inc +1) this time last year in pretty much the same slot so the first two episodes of this run have been down about 25%. Surprise Surprise earlier in the week had a poor rating considering it had a Corrie lead-in and aired against Waterloo Road, down from how it was rating last year in a slot with a much lower lead-in up against far tougher competition in the shape of Strictly Come Dancing.

As I suspected.

Horrendous figure. Yes on the face of it it was a weak figure rather thrown to the dogs against El Clasico but it still should be doing better than that. It's not like Sky haven't shown matches up against the Ryder Cup etc since whenever that previous low was. El Clasico didn't even rate that well.
