Great figures for Strictly last night - it really seems to have hit it's stride this year now, and is motoring along fine after the presenter changes. A big relief, I'm sure.
X Factor's numbers are a little troubling heading into what are traditionally a difficult couple of weeks for the show. Downton seems to have found its new norm.

I think this is a better solution than a year's 'rest', to be honest. It still gives ITV the figures at the peak programming time of year - but avoids the Rugby World Cup disruption and would give a massive boost to the wasteland that is Q1 weekends on ITV at present.
I think a full year off, as Score suggested, is just a step too far and a massive risk. I'm not convinced it would return any stronger in 2016 than it would in 2015. Any 'absence-makes-the-heart-grow-stronger' effect would be balanced out by the utterly free run Strictly would enjoy next autumn and the risk that XF would look like even more of an anachronism when it finally did return.
