Consolidated Ratings for w/e 19th October

Celebrity Juice 2.2m inc+1 and Saturday rpt
Plebs 1.4m inc+1 and Thursday rpt

Downton Abbey 10.39m
Grantchester 6.42m (roughly)
The Great Fire 6.2m (roughly)

If Grantchester can level out at that with 5m+ for overnight then it should get another series.

How well does the MTV EMAs do on MTV? I expect if it breaks over 1m, it'll be considered a success.

Viacom really wasting no time using Channel 5 as a outlet for their other networks.

Its certainly an interesting decision on their part although I suppose with a bigger picture view it maybe makes a little more sense. I'd assume that they'll use the show to promote various things across the Viacom channels so it makes sense to stick it front and centre on Channel 5 where its likely to grab more viewers from that perspective.

I wouldn't be surprised if MTV Movie Awards gets repeated on 5 or 5* next year. Having the EMAs even if it is a simulcast, gives 5 an award show/live entertainment for little to no extra cost.

I think it's unlikely given that they do okay for Channel 4 but picking up The British Comedy Awards would be a coup for Channel 5 and kickstart their foray into comedy plus you could have extra content on 5* and Comedy Central

Only 98,000 last year. And that's consolidated. But the last time it was staged in the UK in 2011 it managed 221,000.

I can see judging by the above why they are taking it FTA as it may prove more lucrative for them from an advertising point-of-view. C5 reaches over 17 times as many viewers in a given week as MTV and with social media to help it should reach a considerable number of 16-34s.

Still some mammoth time-shifting going on a little under-the-radar for Downton Abbey.

Consolidated figures to date:

2013 > 2014 > (% change)
11.96m > 10.71m (down 9%)
12.10m > 10.47m (down 13%)
11.86m > 10.15m (down 16%)
11.75m > 10.24m (down 13%)
11.39m > 10.39m (down 9%)

Overall (first five episodes):
11.81m > 10.39m (down 12%)

Tough year. The first signs of age bringing it back down to earth, I guess. Still, it won't be the ratings that dictate the future of the show - it'll be the writer & cast.

Good point. Massive time-shifter alongside Doctor Who. It shows that drama sustains exceedingly well with catch up. People can watch it at their leisure.

For a show in its fifth series, it's still doing great numbers but I think there is a possibility that Downton might not continue as a regular series but as specials. It still rates well for PBS and I imagine Carnival/NBCUniversal will want it to continue as well.

are they even a thing anymore? if MTV no longer plays music videos, why would stars turn out of its award shows, how many modern stars owe their careers to MTV, like used to be the case, ok alot owe them to Simon Cowell, but he isnt MTV.

I approve of this to take away viewers from the Xtra Factor

Bizarre to say the least, a station that shows 24/7 low grade RTV one a year gives music awards, mind nobody watches them anymore.

Looks like this is the confirmed schedule for 9th November:

BBC One
18:45 - Countryfile
19:45 - Strictly Come Dancing Results
20:30 - F1: Brazilian Grand Prix Highlights
22:00 - BBC News

ITV
19:00 - Keep It In The Family
20:00 - The X Factor
21:00 - Downton Abbey
22:30 - ITV News

30 minute clash between X Factor and Strictly. No clash between the two on the Saturday.

'News at When' does return on ITV though, displaced to 22:30 on Tuesday 10th for The Nation's Favourite Queen Song and displaced to 22:15 on Thursday 12th for Neil Diamond: One Night Only.

I wish BARB would just produce a proper combined top 30 chart for ITV even if it was in addition to the other ITV charts then we would not have to start guessing what some of the ratings are.

BBC One are wasting a superb Premiere on Remembrance Sunday. They are showing "Warhorse" at 1.55pm.

And we thought last night's X Factor figure was bad...

MTV have absolutely no problem attracting stars to their award shows. Mainly because they rate incredibly well globally I suspect (particularly the VMAs) and as such provide a relatively unique platform for these stars. The EMA's this year have Ariana Grande, Nicki Minaj, Ed Sheeran, Calvin Harris, Sam Smith, 5 Seconds Of Summer, Coldplay and others scheduled to perform so its a pretty decent line-up.

Is that wasting it? Remembrance Sunday afternoon seems like pretty spot on scheduling for it. Although I'd perhaps like to see it a little later in the schedule I suppose.

I am cleary getting old, I have no idea who Ariana Grande, 5 Seconds of Summer, & Sam Smith. I wold rather not know who Nicki Minaj is and whilst I have heard of Ed Sheeran & Calvin Harris, and I suspect I will have liked their songs, I could not name them, without checking wikipedia.

I give you Coldplay however.

Maybe I should have stopped after "I am cleary getting old"

Also music vidoes are not what they used to be, the last time I saw a few music videos in a row, all the music was dreadful (I am getting old), and all the vidoes had product placements for either an Apple device, or a Beats (what I think was a) speaker, a very unrewarding expereince. I assume one of the awards will be "Best use of a Beats in a music video"

Strictly doesn't need to clash with X Factor on Sunday. There'll be complaints.

They are big and current names, I can assure you.

Easy to attack MTV for not showing music videos nowadays but it had to evolve to remain relevant to the demographic. It's still a brand that carries weight and these awards shows are always well produced and create moments that are talked about.

Grantchester still getting around 2m timeshift suprises me a little but I am going to give it another go tonight.
Wonder what The Great Fire will be next week?
