Best episode of the series for Scott & Bailey tonight. I hope both dramas at 9pm tonight can get a boost and nudge them both over 5m.

ITV

That'll be why they haven't repeated it again.”

Looking at those ratings I am reminded on the great Wild At Heart. Loved that series so much and it was the best drama on TV at the time of its broadcast. I really miss it.

It was a massive hit for ITV.

I think there is something about Bake Off that only makes it really work here on a national channel. It's not a format like X Factor that could be a national hit around the world.

Our Zoo was brilliant tonight, perfect way to end the series, I really hope we get another series but even if we don't, it still works very well as an excellent six-part drama. Everything tied together nicely, so you wouldn't feel too cheated if it didn't return, but there was still a lot of scope for another series. Series 2 of The Paradise ended in a similar way iirc.

Despite this, it rated almost a million up week-on-week, apparently denting Wallander. Its share shot up more than five points, helped by running on until 23:00. Looking back at the first two series:

Series 1 officials (Nov/Dec 2008, Sundays, 21:00-22:30 approx.)

ep 1 - 6.54m (#8 in the week)
* v I'm a Celebrity (21:05, 8.46m)
* preceded by Strictly Come Dancing (20:15, 9.95m)

ep 2 - 5.90m (#10)
* v I'm a Celebrity...Coming Out (21:05, 6.36m)
* preceded by Strictly Come Dancing (20:15, 9.68m)

ep 3 - 5.66m (#12, behind The One Show with 5.70m)
* v The Old Curiosity Shop (21:05-23:00, repeat, less than 3.44m officially, overnight of 2.5m/11%)
* v preceded by BBC Sports Personality of the Year (19:00, 6.75m)

Series 2 officials (Jan 2010, Sundays, 21:00-22:30)

ep 1 - 6.18m (#18 in the week beginning 28 December)
* v Poirot (20:05, 5.52m), ITV News (3.27m)
* preceded by Antiques Roadshow (6.33m)

ep 2 - 5.86m (#28)
* v Wild at Heart (20:30, 8.55m), Dancing on Ice - The Skate Off (21:35, 8.24m), ITV News (22:05, 5.64m)
* preceded by Lark Rise to Candleford (7.49m)

ep 3 - 5.12m (#29)
* v Wild at Heart (20:35, 7.81m), Dancing on Ice - The Skate Off (21:35, 7.61m), ITV News (22:05, 4.60m)
* preceded by Lark Rise to Candleford (7.07m)

All episodes of Wallander in series 1-3 were fully networked”

Thanks for these, Neil. I'd forgotten how well Lark Rise to Candleford did, a great little drama, it's a shame The Paradise didn't take off in the same way. Wallander's not a bad performer, but doesn't seem able to hold onto its audience. Maybe Kenneth Branagh attracts curious viewers when the new series gets trailed, but they don't like what they see so turn off.

I really hope Bake Off hits 10m. It was an amazing finale and I felt a bit emotional watching it it's such a lovely, warm programme and a celebration of great talent. The showstoppers looked incredible!

Really hope Our Zoo does well it was wonderful throughout.
I still have Grantchester and now S&B to watch. Hope S&B is better this week as I thought the last couple have not been as good as normal.

And just one year later Call The Midwife and Sherlock neutered Wild At Heart. Funny how fortunes can change in a year. Look at New Tricks.

Lark Rise was great. Thats how you do a costume drama. It was IMO much better than a certain feted Sunday night massively rated costume soap.

Bake Off deserves a 10m plus rating tonight. Although those who just tuned in for the final really missed a treat. I always find the final a bit flat compared to other episodes. I prefer it when there's lots of bakers in the tent. It was a great final though and a deserved winner in the end.

I liked Wallander but it was quite grim. Glad it's getting a final series

Perhaps baking is not something that is a past time in other countries. Even Masterchef had to overhaul its format to work in Australia and US and if Bake Off did that, it wouldn't be the same show

Our Zoo has been fantastic from start to finish.

Yes tonight's ep of S&B is the best of the series.

Surely people bake and have baking contests in the rest of the world? The format might need a tweak but if ballroom dancing can work overseas I dont see why this couldnt.

In your opinion.

It does get annoying when just because Downton is hyped and popular that its some how suggested (not said out-rite) by some on here its not worth its ratings and shouldn't be worth anyone's time because there were better period dramas in the past.

Perhaps the reason its more like a soap than a normal period drama is how its gained its worldwide audience? Just a thought.

I wonder if The Apprentice starting on the night of the Bake Off final would have been better?

I thought this would come up, but personally the last thing I want after a final of one competition is another one to start immediately after with 20 (20! is this really necessary, at least it's the same number of episodes) new people to get to know. Let them both have their own nights, I think The Apprentice would have gotten a little lost in all the GBBO promotion.

I'm interested to see how The Jonathon Ross Show will do at 10:20pm in relaton to The Graham Norton Show and whether it can match GN 3.1m he got on Friday.

Should be possible to get a good figure with TXF lead in.

Alternatively it gets annoying when just because DA gets massive ratings it is somehow the greatest drama/costume drama ever made and nobody can say otherwise.
I will if you like say outright that IMO its not worth the ratings it gets when better dramas get less.
DA has the hype and the ratings so I dont really know why whenever its criticised its fans get the huff.

The Christmas programming announcments still aren't due for about another six weeks, so who's to say there isn't? If the BBC's schedule is as threadbare as it was last Christmas I can see why they'd hold back the announcement of a Christmas special of their biggest non-drama show. There was a Christmas special of it last year, after all.

There will no doubt be a press release with tomorrow's ratings, maybe they'll mention something for Christmas in that. They've done Christmas masterclasses in the past, with the masterclasses staying on BBC Two it does seem likely they'll have a special of some sort lined up for BBC One.

Maybe there was more to the HIGNFY spoof than met the eye?

I'm not sure about an equal division of the 10 million viewers for the two programmes, BBC TWO battled both channels with a fantastic cat documentary at 9pm, which may have conflicted with animal lovers out there watching, but hopefully boosted "An Extra Slice" for a Wednesday final outing. I would expect "Scott and Bailey" to loose out tonight and stay frozen week on week against the BBC competition and "Our Zoo" will be the one more likely to make it 5 million overnight.

Please stop being positive about Our Zoo ratings - every time someone does that it seems to drop.

It's a shame that Emmerdale will be down tomorrow due to its early start as they aired a shock reveal at the end of tonights episode which ended on a real cliffhanger.
Spoiler
Declan was revealed to have survived the incident at the lake and was plotting his revenge. Charity is going to be kidnapped next week
Next week is another big week of episodes for ED and marks a year since Killer Cameron's siege week.

I thought that had been signposted quite heavily. Bizarre though that it happened today as you say.
