I don't expect an uplift on the size of last year, but an uplift of about 15 percent could be possible, which would be an overnight average of around 10.1m.”

Heh, what do I know...

This must make commissioners scratch their heads a bit, mustn't it?

That Bake Off rating is higher than every Strictly final ever bar one! Astonishing performance. It will probably end up with the highest average and peak of any entertainment show this year as I can't see XF, IAC or Strictly topping it. BGT's peak wasn't far off with 12.7m but the average was quite a way lower (10.8m) as it was a 150 minute show (it did get a higher share but share isn't what gets boasted about in the end of year charts).

Astonishing rating. The timeshift won't be as high as most of the series, I'm guessing somewhere close to 1m maybe 1.3m, since last year's final added pretty much the same as the first episode. Should still be enough to take it above 13m which is just incredible.

Celebrity Squares...don't fancy yours much.

I wonder what it will timeshift?”

Perhaps many were the timeshifters, knowing that the winner's name/photo will be splashed across newspapers & internet sites within minutes of the announcement.

Anything watched by half of all television viewers at 8PM is a freak rater surely ?

Too many shows like that on BBC/ITV and we'd see a lot of channels close down I'd imagine.

That's a good point, wish I'd thought of that when making my RPG prediction. Also went 10.1.

What a number!”

This is why The Apprentice should have started last night. Would have held onto most of that audience and been another must see programme. Our Zoo wasted it.

How about next year Bake off has its final on christmas day in a Doctor Who/Eastenders sandwich, ratings would be astronomical.

A few more of those happening across the year and TV would get popular again.

Dont worry we will be back to normal next week. Celebrity Squares might even win its slot next week to show just how bad it will be.

There was a report released a few weeks back (might have been in build up for Mip) that said Twitter can now add up to 8% in audience figures due to trending and instant reveals.

Crazy.

TV is still popular, it's just audiences are spread far and wide.

Very hard to achieve what GBBO has in today's climate of multichannel, multiplatform and multiscreen.

Would it? Or would people have been so invested in Bake Off that the thought of another reality competition immediately after would make them turn off. The Apprentice would have got lost in the GBBO hysteria last night. Whether all that is true or not I don't know, but it's probably more likely than The Apprentice holding on to most of the 12m people watching Bake Off.

I agree. There is so little appointment view TV these days that people are getting out of the habit of watching TV in the traditional format. With Netflix, catchup services it's rare that viewers en masse seek to watch a show LIVE. And I think ultimatley viewer numbers are going to keep dropping as a result. This Summer and Autumn big numbers have been increasingly slow returning to traditional viewing, it is surely a worrying trend for TV stations.

I am looking forward to The Apprentice next week, but I am glad it was not on last night after GBBO, I was quite exhausted after watching the quite tense final. I was not ready for a new RTV show straight after.

There is generally very little of note on during the week, but it's a show whole families, couples, students everyone can cosy around and watch in the evening. It's funny, entertaining, light hearted and there's the competition element too, looking at all those lovely cakes and the inevitable mishaps, the hour flies by.”

There's nothing pretentious about the contestants. The judges don't vilify them like you see on other shows; sure Paul's comments to Nancy as the weeks went on seemed harsh, but it was all done with good nature.

Baking is very wholesome and the show's inviting to all generations. It's educational too. I've learnt more about soggy bottoms, curdling and different kinds of breads watching a whole series than I have from books and other shows. Mel and Sue's innuendos and puns give it that umph, and the soundtrack is brilliant. Encapsulates the challenges perfectly.

Still the top trend in the UK. Telegraph and Guardian have gone all out building up to the final and the reviews have been really positive. Mark Lawson singles out Berry -- it would be detrimental if she decides to call it a day.

#GreatBritishBakeOff finals:
2010 - 2.47m
2011 - 4.56m
2012 - 6.50m
2013 - 8.42m
2014 - 12.29m

I can't think of any other TV programme which has done that. Absolutely extraordinary.

I think you're right on this. Sometimes you can have too much of a good thing.

Completely and utterly flabbergasted! That's just astonishing. The whole series has done sensationally - but no way was I expecting such a massive jump for the final.

What I love most is that it airs pre-watershed weekday. In a a lot that BBC One has all but forgotten for years. And yet it's probably going to blow the weekend giants out of the water!

Shame for Our Zoo, though it was the final episode. I don't care what time of day it is, there's so such thing as a bad slot with a 13m lead in!

Anyone seen how Extra Slice rated on BBC Two yet?

Samuel will be delighted, ITV have ordered a 6 part drama for next year called The Forgotten, according to Broadcast.

On its first night on air @ITVBe was the most watched digital channel at 9pm with a peak of 730k viewers tuning in for @OnlyWayIsEssex Ibiza

Is that good or bad? Don't really care about other ratings if I'm honest

Time to learn your 2x table...

2... 4... 6... 8... 12. Wait, but where's 10?

Spoiler
That's for next year you see when the downfall begins. (I jest)

At that Bake-Off rating.

At this very moment Charlotte Moore has just set in stone a Bake-Off episode on Xmas Day.

Astonishing. Its even a weekday. Absolutely amazing
