Also raises serious questions about the ratings of other shows, as there is obviously still a large audience out there for the "right" programme.”

There is generally very little of note on during the week, but it's a show whole families, couples, students everyone can cosy around and watch in the evening. It's funny, entertaining, light hearted and there's the competition element too, looking at all those lovely cakes and the inevitable mishaps, the hour flies by.”
There's nothing pretentious about the contestants. The judges don't vilify them like you see on other shows; sure Paul's comments to Nancy as the weeks went on seemed harsh, but it was all done with good nature.
Baking is very wholesome and the show's inviting to all generations. It's educational too. I've learnt more about soggy bottoms, curdling and different kinds of breads watching a whole series than I have from books and other shows. Mel and Sue's innuendos and puns give it that umph, and the soundtrack is brilliant. Encapsulates the challenges perfectly.

Still the top trend in the UK. Telegraph and Guardian have gone all out building up to the final and the reviews have been really positive. Mark Lawson singles out Berry -- it would be detrimental if she decides to call it a day.
