Considering a lack of clash that's disappointing for Strictly and The X Factor really. But they're still towering over the rest. The X Factor is going to be hurt tonight and I don't understand why ITV didn't ask/pay for an additional 15 minutes on The X Factor so it at least started at the same time as Strictly.

Very strong night for BBC One once again and just goes to show what can happen when a channel puts a complimentary schedule together.

Marigold Hotel put in a great rating for Channel 4.

That's the trouble when you always kick off your Saturday Night with You've Been Framed... IMO The Chase starts far too late, and so does X Factor, but hey they're running scared of Strictly.

Bad luck, Robbie. Back to the drawing-board.

Perhaps it should have been 9m+ for The Festival of Remembrance and 5m for Strictly? Would that be better?

Over 8m people fall for the X Factor last night.

Over 9m people fall for Strictly. I don't see you point, other than the fact we know you don't like TXF, but keep mentioning it.

Anyway you didn't answer my question.

I don't think X Factor will do as bad as many are expecting. The first half hour is the filler that not many people have been tuning in for this year. It will undoubtedly be down but it will probably be in line with last week.

Finally tired of the same old debates about X Factor and Strictly? There was no clash, no late finish for X Factor and both posted respectable ratings. There's very little to spin. Normal service will be resumed tomorrow when the BBC's dirty tactics take effect .

Think the figures are all a bit meh, not much to get worked up about either way.

True. I imagine Strictly's subdued figure means less to boast about.

I hope Downton tops the night with the two reality shows clashing. Should get its highest rating of the series tonight.

Really not sure about this one. I think it could do anything from about 0.5m right up to 2m so I went somewhere down the middle for the RPG. As long as the 16-34s turn up though it will be a success. It has a dream slot in that respect after X Factor.

Big night for Viacom in as much as they are really going public with the fact that MTV and C5 are now part of the same family. And this is the first of many interesting linkups.

What a fantastic rating for Marigold Hotel. Great films get good ratings, particularly British films.

It seems to me all the other channels are showing more film premiere's than ITV put together. I think it sad that Disney premiere's only happen at Christmas.

Nothing for either side in the SCD/XF war to be too agitated about I guess.

Its a good rating for C4 but I wonder what it would have got on BBC1/ITV? War Horse next week is going to be fascinating.

ITV showed premieres more often a few years back but they scheduled them badly and they didn't rate well. Channels need to be cleverer about scheduling them. Channel 4 have found a good slot on Saturday, great counter-programming but only works when you have good films.

If its a question of boasting in respect of Strictly for anyone who feels inclined that way, then there is an on-going one regarding XF's failure to gain any traction with the return of Cowell and Cole. Last night two showings of XF were well over a million behind Strictly. If the situation was reversed a certain Mr Cowell would have set up a new channel purely for the purposes of boasting

Yes, it absolutely has to be the right title. Let's not forget they have screened a few premieres recently to less than a million in that same slot. I think its possible to upgrade the performances of both Marigold Hotel and Hunger Games as I strongly suspect the slot wasn't massively helpful and they could have done even better elsewhere.

I'm just waiting for last Saturday's consolidated figures from DMN. Plus with some posters absent there's less bickering.

Great rating for Channel 4's film last night - it had all the ingredients to do well. A strong, well known cast and well written comic drama. It's a really good film.

Or maybe people enjoy what they are watching? It's possible for viewers to enjoy 'trashy' shows and 'high quality' shows in equal measure. It doesn't have to be one or the other. I watch a wide range of stuff. Comedies on Channel 4, Wentworth on Channel 5, the odd drama on BBC 4, X Factor and I'm a Celebrity on ITV, dramas on BBC One and Two. I love TV in general though and watch far too much of it

Very true. Not every premiere has done that well and not all big films pull in big numbers. I remember BBC1 having some Saturday premieres back in Autumn 92. They were nowhere near as big as ITV's movies. And the one that did the best was Tremors which flopped at the box office.

Some network movie premieres hardly rate well on the main channels but they bolster the channels respective digital channels like ITV2 or BBC3. It's difficult to say what will work now. BBC1 are smart as they save most for Christmas plus they have movies that appeal to a captive audience at that time of year. I'm fascinated to see how War Horse does next Sunday. A premiere in primetime outside Christmas that may do well considering the First World War anniversary.

Yes it does seem that those expecting XF to be well up if not challenging SCD have gone away as they dont like the reality meanwhile I dont think the pro SCD people have ever been quite so vocal or obsessed. I said weeks ago both are going to be down yoy but still excellent ratings wise - thats where we are and I cant see much changing.

Thanks DMN.

Strictly so tantalisingly close to 11m.
