it seems that every character has to have a secret. What has happened to just good old fashioned soap drama which didnt involve secrets or love triangles. It is almost as though the writers have a limited experience with character introduction or re-introduction. I am sure some of the people who post on the soap forum (excluding the mad as hatters ones) could actually throw some decent scripts together.”

Dont see what wrong with people having secrets that what makes the drama when you find out but these things need to be moved on at a pace which was what DTC was doing a few months ago. The rape story seems to have stalled the whole show.

Maybe last year was an exceptionally wet night which kept viewers in? Coronation Street's decline doesn't look as nearly as bad when considering the share.

Big drop for Corrie year on year. It's good Eastenders is stable year on year.
I wonder if it will beat Corrie at Christmas. Corrie bound to fail quite a bit and it didn't beat Eastenders by much last year. Eastenders could rise slightly( by no more than 300 K through, I don't think anymore baring EastEnders getting 8 Million plus in the days leading up to Christmas but that could take it over Corrie. Especially as I cant see Christmas Corrie being trailed much.

Yes the rape storyline does seem to have done something to the narrative flow, along with Kat and Alfie. The block storylining just doesnt seem to work as well as it should do. A few months ago, the show was running so well with cliffhangers that made you want to tune in again, but the current drip feeding of stories is just not consistent enough - well for me anyway.

Surprised that EastEnders isn't much off last year. That's something I suppose. Really wish it could grow.

It was a good night for Sky1 with Modern Family drawing it's highest ever overnight of 620k according to Liam Hamilton on Twitter. Should timeshift comfortably above 1m. Thoroughly deserved as it's a terrific show, the best comedy in the US right now.

Most viewers don't find Corrie interesting, they just watch out of habit.

Who hasn't got a secret on Eastenders? Personally feel the Lucy storyline has dragged far too long -- it'll provide a nice boost in Jan/Feb time, but that's all.

Controversial that one mate. Not a Big Bang Theory fan I take it ? Or Family Guy ?

Good to see Modern Family doing well. Not sure why it's been so underrated over here to now. Well, apart from the fact it's behind the paywall.

It's good to see Gotham holding its audience. It's turning into a strong show.

Sadly I can't stand The Big Bang Theory, I find it about as funny as a bout of piles. I'm clearly in the minority on that one though. Family Guy is decent enough but I love Modern Family as it is both hilarious and also has characters I really like, so even on the odd occasion when it isn't quite as funny as normal it's still great to watch.

I think the paywall has been the issue. Sky were quite new to comedy when they first bought it too and didn't really know what to do with it, so it started quite small but has built really well for them over the years.

Wonder how Trollied did in the 8.30pm slot? If it did well then that's a strong 2 hour comedy block on Sky1 right now. Although I'm not so sure how it will have done, the bits I've seen of it recently have looked rubbish.

I wonder how much it will be hurt by I'm A Celebrity? It's a shame it's going to air over that slot but something has to be.

ITV Media has updated. Big rating for Film4's showing of Rise of the Planet of the Apes. Scored 737k / 4.0%.

Sky Living's new US drama Stalker didn't make the multichannel top 10 with less than 509k.

When its at its best there's very little that can come close to Modern Family its just a shame its no longer consistently producing its best.

I think it will hold up well. I imagine it will not drop below 1m. Gogglobox will be the real test for IAC. It seems Ch4 have found a real beast that might take away some of IAC younger audience.

Btw Chris Packham has criticized IAC for its "barbaric' trials of using animals. Tbh I do agree with him, there is no excuse for mistreating animals. I hope that the producers of IAC and ITV are not guilty of this. If they were I wouldn't hesitate to stop watching.

Re; Ratings I think it will be down this year. My guess is between 10.5m-11m. Tbh it woulden't suprise me of it was lower, what with the big drops ITV have had recently. Why would it buck the trend?

Up 178k on last week's first episode.

Surely this shows that many watched the 'see it first' on demand showing which BARB don't report.

Likewise, Micky Flanagan's show may have dropped more than it appears.

I take it you'll be posting the full results of your survey of Corrie fans on the thread?

I think Corrie has improved recently.

Why's that ?

I heard a fair bit of radio advertising for it yesterday. And also for Elementary (returning tonight at 9pm on same channel).

PS Scott Mills still banging on about Strictly even 10 days after going out, there's life in the younger viewership yet
