Hollyoaks' hospital siege week continued to boost the show's ratings on Wednesday evening (October 8), according to overnight figures.

The soap stayed above the 1 million mark on Channel 4 as 1.08m (6.0%) tuned in at 6.30pm to see Freddie get shot as Big Bob held a number of the villagers hostage at the hospital.

E4's first look showing of Hollyoaks was later boosted to 918k (4.8%) at 7pm and 132k (0.5%) on +1 - the most-watched multichannel programme of the day and the show's highest E4 rating since September 4.

Coronation Street was the most-watched soap of the day, bringing in 6.96m (33.3%) at 7.30pm on ITV and 205k (0.8%) on +1 as Deirdre took her frustrations out on a trifle during a disastrous family dinner for the Barlows.

Emmerdale attracted 5.96m (31.4%) at 7pm on ITV and 199k (0.8%) on +1 as Declan was revealed to still be alive.

Neighbours interested 727k (10.9%) at 1.45pm and 851k (6.1%) at 5.30pm on Channel 5 as Josh confessed to the police following his attack on Chris.

Home and Away entertained 331k (4.8%) at 1.15pm and 635k (3.8%) at 6pm on Channel 5, while 5*'s first look rose to 412k (2.3%) at 6.30pm.

Elsewhere, Doctors continued with 1.37m (20.7%) at 1.45pm on BBC One.

Once again (I posted this about the friendly with Norway), low attendance and a low rating (which won't happen) would NOT be am embarrassment for ITV. The FA are responsible for the success of the national team. It will rate 5.5m+ I would imagine. The friendly with Norway despite being completely dull didn't pull in an embarrassing rating, so this match certainly won't.

Meanwhile, I'm flabbergasted by that GBBO rating. Simply stunning and totally deserved. I don't think it's peaked yet either. I saw a number of comments on FB/Twitter from people watching for the first time. Comments such as "Why have I never watched this before?"

We all are! Creating a monster hit is the most difficult thing in TV. They don't come along often. We were low on predicting its overnight. What if we're low on predicting its timeshift and that ends up higher too?

I thought it would do well as it was trending all day on Twitter and it was number 1 on iPlayer well before midnight. Seemed to be a real buzz around the final. Now we wait for the consolidated rating for the final. It could have one more surprise in store for us.

I don't get GBBO it's so boring. I like cooking shows but it's no masterchef Everything about it is boring and Mary Berry Is so miserable. Still it seems the nation enjoys it.

I do wonder why 12m would tune in to a final of a show they haven't watched this series. 3M people must have been bored.
I think GBBO is lucky in it Has a good slot with very weak Comp.

I agree, the masterclasses should stay on BBC Two, and about a week before Christmas too - after all, it isn't much good recording a programme teaching people the best way to make their Christmas dinner if you air it after they've already made it

I completely disagree with this, I think these 12 million have been watching it all along but with the hype and spoilers everywhere, they chose to watch it live on the night (We all saw the combined figures yesterday were huge with the repeat and Iplayer!) I had a feeling it would do something huge, its an absolute cultural phenomenon and thoroughly deserves its success. People are watching it because its a lovely, feel good, easy to watch show that everyone is enjoying (Going by how mad uni goes for it I would hazard a guess the demos look mighty appealing too)

I agree with every word of this. You wouldn't believe the amount of young people who love it (well you can going off the demos) but it really is a hit with every age group. I know so many people at my uni who love it. Twitter went insane last night and I'm so happy at the high rating.

I do hope it gets 14m in the officials. That would be something else!

TOS continues to rise gently in the ratings as they seem to have discovered that if you let guests speak and don't interrupt them with totally irrelevant VT packages viewers will actually watch.
I'm afraid that's poor for Our Zoo considering the lead-in it had but a second series would certainly be worth trying (in a different slot).

Yes, young people love cookery programmes. MasterChef is a big deal amongst 16-34s as well, not to the same extent obviously but relative to general primetime programming.

It will be interesting to see whether GBBO time shifts as much as normal. If it does, it will overtake the football to become the most watched TV event of the year. I'm not sure it will, but it would be great if it did!

Wasn't it getting 5m at the start of the year? No surprise it's picked up again as it's suddenly got colder again, it's a fab show with little competition if you dislike farms.

I can't see that happening. The World Cup Final had a consolidated rating of 14.92m, and that's just for BBC One! I can't see Bake Off going up by another 3m or so.

No. People will be sick of cooking by that point on Christmas day, it leaves too much of a gap between the two EE episodes, Strictly is too early and Miranda is probably too late.

If part of the appeal of GBBO (at least for some) is finding new recipes to try out, you'd surely be better off airing it on a day when people are keen to cook again in the near future.

There you are then. If, as seems reasonable to believe, most of the catch-up audience simply chose to watch live last night then it's only about the same 2m week-on-week uplift for the final that last year's series saw.

My point being they seem to have stopped interrupting guests to link (extremely awkwardly) to a totally unconnected and irrelevant package. Perhaps they have a new producer.....

Bake Off would be better between Monday 22nd December and Christmas Eve if you're going to go down the Christmas Special route.

Yes I agree, it does seem out of place on Christmas Day. But its not up to us sadly.

It will be when the consolidated ratings come in. The Strictly final in 2010 had 14m, with the finals in 2011 & 2012 both ending up over 13m.
