Our Girl not getting a boost is a shame but it understandably suffers from not sharing the same audience as the rest of the schedule due to the BBC trying to skew younger against Downton.
I wonder if The Game will do any better, which I think will be Our Girl's replacement, it's more likely to appeal to the Strictly/Antiques Roadshow audience which should help it but that does mean there'll be more crossover with Downton, although that doesn't look as unbeatable as it once did. |

It would be interesting to see how it does on one of the main channels.
Could it even end up rating worse there? Sounds daft and goes against everything we know about channel reach/share and impact on transported content; but also sounds vaguely possible in this case. Not sure the average BBC Two viewer has time for a show like FG. |

Couple of quickies on my fag break:
As I understand it, ITV don't get any money out of international sales of Downton, but happy to be corrected BBC One +1 starts autumn 2015 if Trust approves it and the associated closure of Three as a linear channel |

The Sunday show includes a nice 2 minute recap of the Saturday show which is for many people I imagine the preferable way to watch the performance show.

Always knew Downright Shabby would finally lose momentum this year. Did warn its fans months ago.
If that makes it 'shabby', what does that make 95% of other dramas? Usual ratings thread situation, writing off such big numbers just because it is down year on year forgetting the actual number. |

Last night channel 4
If anyone's got a 5 or 15 minute breakdown of channel 4 last night between 7.30 and 9 I'd be enormously grateful.

I wouldn't say that's wholly accurate - while a few viewers catch up on results only I'd suggest many catch up on the Saturday show prior to the Sunday show being aired, whether it be via the ITV repeat, the ITV2 repeats, ITV Player. Especially with live episodes. Same, I would have thought albeit to a lesser extent, with Strictly.

Yeah, I think we can use the F word now.
A bit like judging Big Brother on a random Saturday episode? |

I confess I'd be tempted to move it to BBC1 rather than BBC2. Although where exactly they'd put it on either channel is a bit of a mystery. New episodes would certainly be easy enough to schedule but the stripped repeats scheduling BBC3 has would have to go I'd assume.
That sounds right. However, if Carnival are still making money from international sales then the may very well be willing to drop the price tag for ITV or indeed take it to another broadcaster if ITV decide the investment isn't sustainable or worthwhile for them. We're still a long way off from that point though. But in general the decision to end Downton (or not) is incredibly unlikely to be ITV's. |

If we use single ratings up against major programmes rather than the whole series average then maybe?
A bit like judging Big Brother on a random Saturday episode? It's a shame about Sunday Night at the Palladium. It would have been nice to see that take off. |

A bit like judging Big Brother on a random Saturday episode? It even did less than 100,000 at 8PM else DS would have reported it so whilst Strictly undoubtedly did the damage, it did not recover sufficiently either through VOSDAL or +1 timeshift. |

Please. It's in the heart of Sunday primetime and acts as a lead-in for one of ITV's biggest programmes. That is a piss poor performance and if it doesn't prove that result to be an outlier, it's done for.

Palladium was always going to (relatively speaking) flop against the behemoth Strictly. It's been scheduled wrong. |

Still a massive drama way out in front of most others including most on BBC1 though isn't it?

I see the Strictly Results Show effect has hit Countryfile
6.29m viewers (33% share) at 6:20pm is pretty good going... |

It is not the format of the show that is the problem with X-Factor on a Saturday, it's the scheduling clash. Last night's results prove that both can rate really well if one follows the other or just has a five minute overlap, but nobody seems willing to be the one to move later.

But it isn't big numbers is it? It is currently lagging behind CtM this year (although what happens with that is anybody's guess), is just a million ahead of Happy Valley and Cilla has nearly reached the figure DA is getting now. It is natural to compare DA with its previous performances and naturally, when you do that, it is not doing very well at all. Only your over-protective, poor little puppy being kicked attitude prevents you from seeing that.
For Downton to progressively rise over 4 years is an achievement. For it to have done so well that first Christmas, is an achievement. As I said to Samuel, if I throw a ball in the air, I expect gravity to bring it back down eventually All human beings themselves build up, reach a peak of ability and performance, then slowly deteriorate and eventually die. Everything has a shelf life. Nothing rises forever. |

ITV should put Corrie back on Sundays pronto if you ask me.
Palladium was always going to (relatively speaking) flop against the behemoth Strictly. It's been scheduled wrong. 6.30 Palladium 7.30 Coronation Street (take away Fridays second episode) 8.00 Jekyll and Hyde 9.00 Mr. Selfridge |
