No they have a target audience. ABC1 viewers who are willing to pay a premium price for a listings magazine. Family Fortunes and Benidorm are not exactly loved by that demographic.

Also why would Sky fall be in a list of TV highlights? Film and tv has always been separate in the RT”

So that's why they put Mrs Brown's Boys on there is it? Hardy the leader in ABC1 demographic.

I was just pointing out the shows ITV have coming up.

Since its a magazine that is distributed across the country, it should be picking highlights on all channels. Not just the BBC, as if they are the only channel on air.

No doubt they would prefer the overnights and the officials to be closer but it skews nice and young and is by far and away their most watched drama series of the year. Hard to see how they will be that disappointed with Gotham, expecting 2M+ overnights every week would have been naive. It is still capable of improving its overnight performance, but on the other measure it's almost twice as popular as anything else the channel is showing at the moment. It's a hit.

Sky are good with movies too. But I never pay as I already pay for Sky so will wait until they show them.

Pointless has been renewed for 110 episodes plus 38 Celeb specials.

It still rates well so why not!?

I suspect ITV will bite on the bullet after Christmas. In her interview with The Sun on Sunday Susanna Reid seemed quite philosophical about it being axed.

That's lucky because BBC1 have got several festive episodes of Celebrity Mastermind for you to get your teeth into.

Who was it that said they hoped they wouldn't be revisiting that one yesterday?

I too groaned when I saw it in the press release. There's something a little lazy about Celebrity Mastermind coming back each Christmas.

I have already seen many of them on Netflix - so you are right.

H, no disrespect but I think you're being a little bitter over the RT selecting a majority of BBC programmes over ITV ones. You surely can see that the BBC seem to have genuinely made much more effort than ITV and they have a much more varied range of programming than ITV? That's why their highlights tend to be BBC dominated. And, for the record, just because Mrs. Browns Boys is on their list doesn't mean the RT likes it. Generally it hates the show but recognises its popularity. Downton and Birds of a Feather are on the list though because frankly, they're the biggest shows ITV are pushing this Christmas.

When RT's Autumn preview came out in August, I seem to recall a majority of ITV shows in it then. The RT is now owned and distributed by Immediate Media Ltd. It has no correlation with the BBC. If ITV made more effort at Christmas then they'd get more recognition. Although, I can pretty much guarantee that Downton Abbey will get huge coverage on their Christmas Day choices pages. It is usually "Drama of the Day" and that's over Call The Midwife and Doctor Who. Always is.

It's cheap, it's entertaining enough and is purely post news filler for the Christmas period. It is basically the Christmas replacement for The One Show.

Really impressed by the Beeb's Christmas offerings this year. Seems like they've got a bit more than usual to spread around.

Jake, stop picking on H of De Vil. I note all your posts are direct replies to him, and none of them particularly worthy. Either be constructive and pleasant or don't bother post in here.

You seem to be forgetting it had 10m in the overnights last year. Downton aside which is on the RT list can you tell me what on ITV had more ABC1 viewers?

You may well be right. I think they launched it at the time of year they did, to give it a few months to build an audience - specifically with the Xmas advertisign market in mind. But, of course, the audience has gone backwards, so the strategy has failed miserably.

The only sane reason to keep it now is because they're unable to think of anything that'll do better. And even if they could, they can't risk yet another failure.

Thanks wizzy, I couldnt remember the details but knew RT had been bought by some private company.

Anyone else find it pathetic Downton Abbey's "Christmas special" is, yet again, not going to be set at Christmas? I mean really, they are asking for the turkey of a figure they're going to pull for this episode, not only 2 hours in length on an already-underperforming day for ITV, but totally unrelated to Christmas at all.

From the writers to the commissioners this is a farce. They had potential to trail it as a snowy period Christmas wonderland with the usual soapy drama and potentially pull in casual as well as regular viewers. Instead it's an extended borefest set around a hunting trip in the Autumn. I hope it gets its worst ever rating this Christmas and declines dramatically for its new series next year. Things like this are unforgivable in my book. What part of CHRISTMAS SPECIAL do these chumps fail to understand?

The absolute stupidity continues.

EDIT: Apparently Elizabeth McGovern has said: "It’s very Christmassy, so people who are looking for or a big tree and a big Downton Christmas look will be satisfied this year, because we will give it to them.” Well perhaps I'm wrong then... but the "Autumn" setting from the Press Release does not signify Christmas to me.

Does Lorraine perform better than GMB? If so, couldn't they just bring that forward to 8am after an hour of ITV Morning News starting at 7am? Just keep it simple! I noted all the on screen info on GMB whilst a clip was being shown on Russell Howards Good News. It is extremely busy and off putting as it has the clock, the weather, the programme name and the scrolling news ticker all at the same time. I didn't like it!

What is interesting, is that the ITV press release now states it will be shown at Christmas and does not, as in previous years, specify it will be shown on Christmas Day.
