Another perspective to look at is that at 9pm yesterday, Itv2 had a 2.4pct share and ItvBe had a 3.1pct share. So combined Itv2 and ItvBe share was 5.5pct, which is far higher than what Itv2 alone would've got (perhaps about 3pct).
So is it an initial success or not? Depends on how you look at it.”
Whatever way you look at it that's a remarkable retention. Shows moving from BBC1 to BBC2 have fared worse. I doubt it will hold quite that high going forward (lower reach, lower lead-ins resulting in less casual viewers). But it's a great start for the channel and the show.

I don't think this is necessarily over exposure.
And in general, I defend Channel 4 against that. Nobody makes much money out of a high rating 6x60' series. And it doesn't even do much for share. Especially when, like C4 or C5, you don't have any soaps or regular slot filler and have to fill 8-11pm every night of the week, every week of the year.
C4 desperately need high volume series. And with stuff like One Born Every Minute, I think it's a limited format anyway. I'm not convinced that fewer episodes would mean the show would still be doing much more. I think the moment passes with that kind of ob-doc fact ent series. Educating is the perfect example of this... they haven't overdone it but the moment has quite clearly passed.
