Blooming hell that episode of Atlantis was dull, dull, dull. And I usually enjoy it.

The promo was good showing the classics of last TV and the announcer was clear there lighting up there Christmas tree next Saturday.

Since the rebrand they have been quite generic Christmas scenes. Like Christmas lights (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=--fsvsaMSm8) or Santa Claus. Be nice to see a bit more effort this year but I doubt it, probably reusing last year's or a few new Christmas scenes with the logo overlay.

In 2012 ITV completely surprised everyone with a really excellent package: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a4MsQdzaZmA And 2010s were nice https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cEpn6SEi92Y (probably my favourite, with the christmassy logo hovering above the cityscape at nighttime).

Very hit and miss at ITV - one year they added a few sparkles to the already-crap idents and left it at that.

Loved Doctor Who back then! A different show to the show it is now but still great! Classic.

ITV had its own wispy yellow Christmas Tree idents in 2008: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cFOozmuFTqA

Nice enough but thank god that horrible yellow scheme for ITV1 is gone...

That was quite nice..

I love the line.......

I am going to get killed by a Christmas tree. Two years later we had David Tenant DW themed Christmas indents up to when he was killed on New Years day in part two.

Duncan Newmarch, who's been doing the announcements on BBC One tonight, has posted a bit of info regarding this year's Christmas presentation on TV Forum:

Quote:
“Now you know why we had the old idents out. Yes, the new idents/trails start on Saturday. I promised a Christmas tree so you'll get at least one.”

Quote:
“I think I prefer this years idents cyclon6. Although I liked the wrapping paper idea, the new set are not quite as simple. Having said that, the idents of 93 were simple and I loved them!”

At least one Christmas tree and not quite as simple as last year...

Nice of him to post.

Anyone seen the XF forum, lots of criticism there tonight on the show and Simons actions? Will even more be switching off?

No it's like that over there every week . Tonight's show was no different to any other. Simon didn't do anything that he doesn't usually do.

The Christmas Invasion is still one of the best Xmas episodes IMO.

Before MOTD, Duncan specifically said BBC1'S "trees" arrive next Saturday.

Was that a clue to the nature of the idents?

I think so! I don't have too much hope, BBC Christmas presentation is no where near what it used to be, although I quite liked last year.

I thought as much. After watching last weeks episode, the trailer for this weeks looked uninspired. I think I will give it a miss this week.

What about next week? Does that look any good?

loved the christmas trailer. it would be great if we had the old globes from the 70's and the early 80's as the christmas idents. however from the announcement it sounds like it may be something to do with a christmas tree?

I like your schedule. I wish ITV would split Corrie and make a real effort at Christmas. The 1st ep to end o the big cliffhanger (once its in better shape quality wise)

I thought last year's were a bit boring. Nothing much happened. I think BBC1 had particularly good Christmas idents in 1999 and 2000.

well more so for itv, hence previous years having a 15 minute news bulletin mid evening.

3:10pm The Queen

4:20pm ITV News
4:30pm Paul O'Grady FTLOD
5:30pm Elf
6:30pm ITV News
6:40pm Emmerdale
7:40pm Coronation Street
8:30pm Downton
10:30pm ITV news
10.45pm Birds of a Feather

If ITV News starts at 3:20pm the same time as BBC go to a film premiere viewers will automatically turn over to them and watch BBC News later. Better to go straight to The Queen's Garden which flows with The Queen.

Scrap YBF”

Call the Midwife Xmas special has been deemed unsuitable for under 12's by the bbfc; you would think this might deter them from showing it early, but it probably won't.

Its worth investing in Christmas idents even if it makes you no profit. It just makes the channel your watching feel more appealing and improves the public image with the viewers watching.

Re Atlantis. I thought it would be possible that a drama following Strictly could pull in such poor ratings, but it looks like tonight (if not next week) Atlantis might sub 3m.

Its such a shame. I commend the BBC for investing in something risky and expensive. However the problem is, the scripts and stories let it down. The setting is fine. Last week and the week before were good and a step up from the 1st series. Unfortunately it seems it was not to last. They promised us dark stories and that what I wan to see. Not like fluffy.

I really miss Merlin though. I have all the series on DVD, so perhaps I should watch Merlin in Atlantis' place!?
