Why not? It airs practically every other day of the year.

Good for Strictly though it seems to be suffering from the 2014 decline which has hit most shows. Nothing to worry about, though. The X Factor is treading water and the kindest thing to do would be to rest it after this series. It's never going go happen. I'm A Celebrity put in a strong performance.

I'd much prefer that to Call the Midwife!

I am not sure if this is a joke or not but I actually do think it deserves a place on Christmas Day! Just after the Queen - I think it would rate 5-6m+ a lot more than Puss in Boots is likely to achieve IMO!

Same night last year:

Strictly Come Dancing: 10.25m/42.9%
Atlantis: 4.09m/17.4%
The X Factor: 7.90m/33.2%
I'm A Celebrity: 8.04m/38.0%

So Strictly is 0.62m down, Atlantis is 0.33m down, X Factor is 0.22m down and I'm A Celebrity is 0.08m up.

Interestingly the shares have held up much better. Strictly only down 0.5 points, Atlantis down 0.7 points whilst XF is up 0.5 points and IAC up nearly 2 whole points. So less people around than this time last year.

Nope, it would have been exactly the same. X Factor has never seen a boost when IAC follows it as you well know.

To me it would do wonders for X Factor if it had two or three years away (wont happen obviously) a bit like leaving fields fallow to come back renewed and refreshed both for the format in the UK and the talent.”

I think The Voice has contributed to X Factor's 'demise'. Over saturation of the singing talent format.

Except The Voice will keep draining the talent pool alongside, to a lesser extent, Britain's Got Talent. Cowell can control the use on the latter but not the former.

There are many reasons behind The X Factor's decline but The Voice's presence is one outside it's control.

After The Queen or after the movie after The Queen? You have to be careful of overkill but part of me thinks that would work. But Pointless is on enough as it is.

I'd stick it on after the movie after the Queen. Build up the momentum.

SC and CC were never going to get back the XF audiences. I was amazed so many said they would. They are very quiet now of course.
No reason to drop it though. Still getting a decent audience, they just need to accept its no longer competing with SCD despite what Louis says

Pointless could get 8m on Xmas Day I think.

Give Armstrong and Osman Santa hats and job's a goodun.

Before The Queen maybe but after The Queen no. It just wouldn't feel special enough for the time slot on the day. Though when the likes of Ground Force and Changing Rooms can grace Christmas Day primetime...

I love how opinions on here sway from one extreme to the other. Having been told on here that Pointless is on too much and they will kill the format because it doesnt get a break and why so many repeats NOW people want it on Xmas day as well !!!

Not me yorkie. I love Pointless - it drives my kids crazy. Maybe they should show it in the Autumn-Winter period then it won't be overkill. They could use one of their other formats for the other quarters.

So...

15.00 The Queen
15.10 BBC News and Weather
15.20 Puss in Boots
16.40 BBC News and Weather
17.00 Pointless Celebrities
18.00 Strictly Come Dancing
19.15 Doctor Who
20.15 EastEnders
21.15 Miranda
21.50 Mrs. Brown's Boys
22.25 Michael McIntyre's Christmassy Christmas Show

That actually doesn't look as bad as I originally thought. But then again taking off Call the Midwife, which could improve the schedule immeasurably elsewhere yet is weak on Christmas Day, will generally result in improvement. I'd still prefer to see Still Open All Hours on the day itself to be honest.

15.00 The Queen
15.10 Puss in Boots
16.40 BBC News and Weather
17.00 Strictly Come Dancing
18.15 Still Open All Hours
18.45 EastEnders
19.15 Doctor Who
20.15 EastEnders
20.45 Miranda
21.20 Mrs. Brown's Boys
21.55 Michael McIntyre's Christmassy Christmas Show

Yes I know the schedules don't align etc.

Throughout Christmas week instead of tired old Celebrity Mastermind would be better. Christmas Day itself is heading down the same road the schedules had a decade ago, when Changing Rooms aired on the big day.

RE: The X Factor

Like others have said, there is only so many times you can dredge the well before it's completely empty. There's only so many people that 1) want to be on these shows and 2) have any talent. This series has proven that there is plenty from column 1, but very little from column 2. It was only a matter of time to be honest and I think had ITV continued with Rising Star it would have only made it even worse.

Pointless is more repetitive than Celebrity Mastermind considering it's on for the majority of the year.

I prefer A still although I think splitting EE would be good too if there is a good cliffhanger to entice people back to episode 2

Have to say The Voices performance will be all the more interesting given the lack of spark surrounding XF. The XF audition shows were the strongest part this year iirc and lets face it, the audition process pretty much is The Voice. So will The Voice continue the talent depression and decline in line-some fascinating ratings to look forward to.

Great for Pointless, even though I can't stand it myself. The Chase is so much better IMO.

I will be amazed if The Voice is not down next year.

ITV inc +1
15:10 - FILM: Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone: 2.37m (16.8%)
* peak: 3.63m (23.5%) at 17:25
18:00 - ITV Regional News: 2.34m (13.2%)
18:15 - ITV News: 2.43m (13.2%)
18:30 - You've Been Framed!: 2.30m (12.2%)
19:00 - The Chase Celebrity Special: 3.59m (16.2%)
....
22:50 - The Jonathan Ross Show: 2.72m (21.2%)
23:55 - ITV News: 1.36m (16.3%)

Have tried to tape-check those, but Ross I haven't tape-checked - if it started at 22:55, then you're looking at 2.65m (21.2%) so it doesn't make a huge difference. Either way, its doing really well following I'm a Celebrity, and may well have beaten Match of the Day head-to-head.

Good numbers for Harry Potter as well, why ITV do not do:

15:10 - You've Been Framed!
15:40 - ITV Regional News
15:55 - ITV News
16:10 - FILM: Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone
19:00 - The Chase

I don't actually know, because at 17:45, 3.56m (21.1%) were watching ITV, only for that to drop to 2.30m (12.0%) an hour later. That's not because of Strictly, that's because of poor scheduling. It's pretty clear Potter doesn't work in primetime, but something like the above works in my opinion.
