It is obvious that the broadcasters dont seem to care much either.
All we can do is keep our eye on the situation and see what happens. Thanks for your input though as without it we probably would never have got as far as we have in this matter.”
As I posted the other day, BARB's reply to me implicitly confirmed that
X Factor, and by logical extension almost every other programme on commercial TV, CANNOT be affected by this anomaly, because they carry adverts.
I've explained just now why the BBC wouldn't care much. And commercial broadcasters won't care because it doesn't affect them.
In order to rectify the program at BARB (which the broadcasters and advertisers own, by the way) you'd need to scrap the whole audio-matching procedure and come up with something else. I'm not sure what that could be. Visual matching wouldn't be any better as there would still be a full match.
In order to rectify it at the BBC end, they'd need to distinguish individual repeat showings of episodes on the same channel with inaudible codes, which sounds like a big and expensive undertaking. I can see why they don't, when they've got Live +7 stats which include repeats anyway.
Anyway, you're welcome - at least we know what to look out for now.
