The Saturday after Christmas always seems to be a bit rubbish

Generally it's just the lottery, casualty and then repeats of the comedies we've seen so far that Christmas on BBC1. On ITV it's usually either a drama repeat, which they wouldn't show on a Saturday any other time of year or a one off entertainment show that is just thrown out.

Of course this is the last Saturday that this will apply to for a while, as next year Saturday is Boxing Day and then Christmas Eve the next year.

The only thing with Last Tango is why has it not been matched with CTM?

True. I expected ITV to put Christmas Epic Fails there, certainly not on the Monday.

Mapp and Lucia goes completely unchallenged. Indeed it'll probably be BBC Two that fills the 2nd spot in that slot.

The time shift figures include same day time shift. Because EastEnders got 7.8 on overnights.
Look at the Massive timeshift EastEnders got on the day from viewers watching after Downton/later in the night.

It suggests the animated version of 101 Dalmatians based on length. We'll get a better idea when Christmas trails go out on BBC1 from Saturday.

Digiguide says it's the live action version with Glenn Close. Think it's normally fairly accurate at this point in proceedings but could be wrong..

Nah mate. Digiguide just gives details based on what's in their data archive. The live action movie would need 100 minutes to air. This version on Christmas Eve has only a 75 minute slot. It'll be the animated version.

Very good for both. I'm pleased Gotham has held up well from its opening ratings. Need to go and catch up on this week's.

I would have preferred Miranda and MBB together but that's a good schedule overall. The Christmas Eve line up is weak though. I think Skyfall should win that one.

I think at this point all the timings are right, but the programme information isn't, that's sorted in another update, usually the next day.

Looking at overnights.tv, the slot is about 10-15 minutes too short at 80 mins so unless there's a change tomorrow you are both right:

Quote:
“Position Channel Day Date Start Time Duration Ser* Ep* Rpt* Programme Selected
1 BBC One Thu 27/12/2012 11:03:44 94 FILM: 101 DALMATIANS

2 BBC One Thu 26/12/2013 09:56:40 94 FILM: 101 DALMATIANS

3 BBC One Fri 18/04/2014 13:23:04 94 FILM: 101 DALMATIANS”

Also note the start times. Probably unlikely they would be playing this particular title so late in the day nowadays.

Good premiere for the Beeb to get if so in a year that is otherwise lacking in that department.

Looking at past Christmas Day line ups and there has always been a weak link in the schedule for BBC1.

IMO the weak link each year has been: (Not necessary ratings wise, but just does not suit the night).

Not so much the film, but just two animations in a row post the Queen did not 'fit' right to me.

For many Christmas Day TV is something that has to be endured rather than enjoyed.

Spare a though for those whose viewing line-up will be as follows :

19:50 Call the Midwife
21:00 Downton Abbey

At least by 23:00 you'll be totally comatose.

Can't believe C5 are not going to repeat the first 10 episodes nightly over the festive period on any of the channels. Bit of a wasted opportunity if you ask me. Viewers have more time for TV at Christmas and it's a good way to get new people involved.

Indeed 5USA's schedule looks incredibly boring this year compared to previous years. Normally they repeat entire seasons of their best US dramas across 5USA and 5* during the fortnight, this year it's just endless NCIS reruns and movie repeats.

Come to think of it are any of the digital channels making any sort of effort this year? Nothing is leaping off the page at me on Digiguide. Even Sky1 looks weaker than usual. I suppose it's a bit of an ask when there's not really anything in it for them, but just an attempt to provide something a bit different to usual would be welcome from some of these minor players carrying on as if it's a normal week.

It's also baffling as to why BBC1 didn't repeat Our Zoo over Christmas. Broadcasters really should utilise Christmas to help promote potentially strong shows. I'm always surprised when they don't.

Now a spin on the ratings prediction game.

What day will the Daily Mail print its annual there are so many repeats on TV this Christmas, article, we know they do it every year, in fact, it's Repeated more than the Vicar of Dibley.

They do bend the truth as much as possible including signed programme repeats overnight, for example, and children's cartoons and early morning shows.

So when will they have lazy journalism and bring out their annual treat for us to fill up a page?

I will say Thursday to give them a day to work out the maths.

What a shame BBC1 couldn't have ordered a Great a British bake off special with some past contestants, cooking Christmas cakes etc, I would have filled up one of the repeat gaps, Or maybe build up Christmas Eve, after the ice cream scandal, they might have a sabotaged cake being knocked down.

then we would have Skyfall Vs Piefull.

Cost & repeat fees ? They wouldn't be able to justify the cost of running those out of primetime.

Makes C5+24 fairly redundant that evening, if it wasn't before anyway.

Also where is Viva finding those extra 15 minutes from? 2h45m is the right length based on C4 screening in July.
