Jake finished 12th on X Factor - I'm not sure how he could possibly be flavour of the month based on that. He might win IAC because he's a fit guy and there are no obvious candidates to win. And that would be the same in 2023 as it is now. He got in there because the producers had zero male totty and had to sign someone up last minute. The casting hasn't been quite right this year and the loss of Craig Charles and Gemma in a matter of days took its toll on the show especially as they were unable to find any replacements.

Just looking back at the past week and I don't think I've ever seen a show as protected and well looked after as IAC. For the shows last 9 episodes the lead-ins have been...

X Factor, X Factor, Corrie, Emmerdale, Corrie, Emmerdale, Corrie, X Factor, X Factor

And the only big BBC competition was The Apprentice.

ITV's Christmas trailer includes many programmes not airing during the main week.

In fact I think ITV2's Christmas line up is entirely before Christmas, presumably as digital channels get lost in the busy schedules at Christmas. Christmas Celebrity Juice is actually this week, although it'll probably be repeated numerous times all over the place.

x-factor is a show that thrives on voting, I utterly disagree that he would get any votes in another year, we'll never know though of course. Fit guys have probably won about twice in the shows history unless you count Joe Pasquale and Biggins. I'm reasonanly sure there must be a few more fit men in the World other than Jake.

Losing Craig was bad, but I don't think Collins was adding a lot

Apart from a couple of episodes that followed Surprise Surprise on Wednesdays it has had a very nice run of it this year. Apart from SS it has been Corrie, Emmerdale and X Factor throughout.

Compare and contrast with BGT earlier in the year which saw its audition shows air at 7pm in April/May to prop up Amazing Greys with a lead-in most weeks from You've Been Framed, then the live shows got split around Corrie in fairly undesirable scheduling with a separate results show that doesn't work, all whilst manipulating the nights it airs on around various football. It's quite a difference.

I do wonder if it being ITV Studios is part of it as it gives them more reason to look after it properly and less incentive to lower ratings to lower the value of contracts. Dancing on Ice always got very cushy treatment and a load of promotion compared to X Factor. Every year DOI would get a massive advertising campaign whereas it's only in the past couple of years that ITV have ever given X Factor much of a push.

I agree I'm not sure how putting in someone who was knocked out of TXF many weeks ago is a way of supporting TXF, unless viewers can go back in time and watch TXF again from the start, so they know him before the jungle starts!

The fact that Edwina hasn't turned out to be confrontational, like you'd expect hasn't helped either.

It's worth pointing out that yet again complete unknowns have caught the publics imagination, like they always do, 8m watching the daily exploits of Kendra and discussing her performance in the show, even though nobody knew who she was 3 weeks ago. Shows that the entire lineup doesn't need to be well known people.

Social media pretty much didn't shut up about her for her entire stint in the show.

As well as 2 editions of Surprise Surprise, one edition in the first week had Paul O'Grady dogs as the lead in.

She's TOWIE, they have a disproportionate twitter presence. Yet again it's annoying cross-promotion. Mind you all reality shows insist on thrusting a docu-reality person, or more than one, on us, I wish they'd stop. By definition they just act their roles.

I don't know why people expect people to be watching TV for the entire duration of peak viewing. I personally pick and choose which programmes I want to watch and I most definitely do not watch TV continuously.

This is the age which technology allows viewers to record a programme then start watching it before the recording has finished. So some viewers may have watched HIGNFY at 9pm, then start IAC at 9.30pm (allowing them to skip the adverts). Or they could miss the first half hour of IAC. There's that much of it I'm sure plenty of people don't watch it all.

Or, as overnights count people who watch a programme up to 2am, HIGNFY's viewers could include those who watched IAC at 9pm and HIGNFY at 10.30.




With regards the lower figures of some programmes last night compared with last week - It's December. We've moved into Christmas party season and this must be particularly so on a Friday. (I had my works' Christmas dinner yesterday afternoon.) I remember when BBC1 used to have an Autumn Season (heavily promoted as such), they always had a quiet period at the start of December. I thought that might have been them winding down to make the Christmas programme more appealing. But maybe it was because they knew ratings dropped in December due to the Christmas parties.

I know it's a cold December but perhaps most of the shows (EastEnders,Corrie,IAC ect) are rating lower due to Xmas shopping/Parties and what not?

Last night in my city was late night shopping so town was busy but a lot of the pubs seemed to have work parties (Mine was Tuesday which is earlier than usual)
Perhaps things will settle down just in time for Christmas?

Town again today seemed mega busy much more so than this time last year. Nothing on last Friday though.

It's Saturday night on ITV, all they did was have a Christmas theme. I think it's been pretty good so far tonight actually.
