Simon thinking him and Cheryl would save it has led him to be idle about the rest of the show, thinking them two would save it by their own. Cheryl unfortunately is now a has been and so is Simon.

No, his company produces the American version of Got Talent. He holds the brand across the globe. The British show should have launched before the USA version with Paul O'Grady but he fell out with ITV just before the pilot so they put it on hiatus until they found another host (or in this case, hosts).

I'd argue The X Factor has a dedicated audience of just under 6m considering that's where it bottomed out on that Friday night opposite Strictly. But is that holding steady or is the dedicated audience also losing faith in the show?

Well, as I used to be a big fan of the show, since 2004, always watched it all, I started loosing interest after the Kelly Rowland series, and this is the first year I've not watched. I've watched bits, but I'm not bothered if I miss it or watch it. I used to never miss it.

Cowell did rip off Pop Idol but to say it was Fuller's idea and Fuller's alone is incorrect.

All Fuller did was get the ball rolling -- the story goes he was impressed with Popstars' success and invited Cowell to dinner to talk about creating their own music show. Cowell did the pitching, and all it took was two minutes for ITV to say yes. The Beeb made an offer but Heggessey wanted it in-house and she was tentative.

Dire, TXF has lost 40 per cent of its audience since 2009. People are just tired of the sob stories, the mediocre talent and the endless hype in the tabloids. However, notice how Pointless Celebrities is reaching hit status, being a shade under 6 million.
I am convinced Cowell will pull TXF at the end of its contract, on current trends the show will be down to 5 million by 2o16.

I'd say more New Faces, as BGT has a panel like New Faces. Op Knocks only had one presenter.

All of these modern talent shows were *ahem* inspired by the daddy of reality - Survivor.

Same cast, weekly eliminations. A deft blend of entertainment and documentary.

Big Brother came along, with its viewer interactivity, and the rest just cloned that model.

The fact that Simon has no new ideas is because telly hasn't had any new ideas for him to *ahem* take inspiration from.

I always thought BB was the grandaddy of reality, starting in Holland in 1999. Indeed its first series had an episode that ran for 24 hours and is in the Guiness Book of Records. Survivor doesn't really have much in common with TXF, but I suppose it had some influence( the son of Survivor, though, is IAC).
It's odd that while Survivor only ran for two series and was cancelled when it failed to beat BB in the ratings, in America the show is still going strong.

There is no point trying to boost viewing figures by paying big bucks fr new judges. The fact is Xf is past its sell by date (but still holding a 7.5m audience) and viewers who have left will never return. The only possibility to stablise TXF is to make the best show possible.Enough with the novelty acts, enough with the VT's that are so fake (like reading from a script), the judges entrance fanfare. Its need a fresh take. The mass of adverts every 5minutes do it no favours.

ITV really need to prioritse their 10-part, dramas next year over TXf if they are scheduled together. If it gets a good audience its a possibilty it might outlive TXF, and make them more money with overseas sales.

I think it will continue to slide, it's been on too long and viewers are getting fed up. I don't think it will decline like BB did and fall out of favour with the mags and the redtops, but I can imagine the last series playing to 5 million.
TXF has been very profitable for ITV, making £ 50 million a year at its peak, but it's also a very expensive show and now ratings are falling, ITV and Cowell will probably call it a day in two years time. Dramas, if they are successful, can also run for years on ITV 3, whereas TXF is more or less an instant show.

yes that 'Big Twist' quadruple-elimination was terribly executed. This year there's nothing glaringly wrong. It's just a general malaise with the format that is causing the decrease. I think its time is up, but even getting 5m would be OK for ITV, give how hard it has been to find any new entertainment hits.

Survivor was brilliant., the right show at the wrong time. Would be cool if there was a civilian IAC.

Stupid comparison. PC is not the BBC's main Saturday night programme, SCD is. Its like comparing The Chase achieving 4.5m to The Voice dropping below 6m for a LIVE show when the rights to it cost millions.

I agree. Finding new entertainment shows is incredibly difficult.
They will plod on at least for another two series though I doubt there is anything they can do to stop the decline.
Perhaps as someone mentioned, 4 new younger judges who are maybe more relevant.
Louis has just become a joke judge.

Can't imagine TalkTalk sponsoring X Factor if the majority of its audience was 55+ like SCD.
