You can get 5/1 on Miranda on betway, mostly 3/1. Doctor Who you can get at 8/1 in a couple of places. EastEnders second-favourite mostly, nowhere offering better than 3/1. Emmerdale is as long-on as Top of The Pops, shows how weak ITV is for having that as their third-biggest draw.

Of course back in the 60s, 70s and 80s, it used to pull in enormous figures of up to 24 million. 30 years ago it was the highest rated programme of the year with 20.55m.

A great rating for Celeb Now! on ITV2 last night, 1.4m for ITV2 is massive, as is being the 20th highest rating programme on all channels. Not often you get a digital entertainment offering in the top 20.

X Factor was behind Strictly on Sundays by a decent distance last year and the year before too. Things haven't changed that much this year. Indeed, Strictly is down a similar amount to XF this year.

Also, to correct something you posted earlier, The X Factor Final was not down week on week at all last year.

I see William Hill are offering 33/1 about Birds of a Feather, a show being broadcast on Boxing Day, to be top Christmas Day programme !

Miranda looks the value selection and I wouldn't put anybody off a few quid on this at the prices, even if the slot could have been kinder. There was only about 200,000 between the former and Mrs. Brown's Boys for their respective Christmas specials in 2012, and with the whole last episode ever thing going for it, it could be close between them again.

Looks a match between the two. Forget about EastEnders which finished well behind the main players last Christmas and has had an even worse 2014. No reason to think it can pose a threat and especially at really poor odds of 2/1.

Yes, I would agree with that, totally. It's a wholly cynical move to stick the Royal Variety on Monday just so they could move two episodes of Corrie to Sunday to dent Strictly. It made absolutely no difference to Strictly's ratings whatsoever. All it just is just weaken Corrie and annoy viewers. What they could have done if they really wanted to show the Royal Variety tonight is start it at 8pm so they could still show Corrie at 7.30 as usual (we know they don't care when the news is on) and then show the displaced 8.30 episode in a hour long on Wednesday, which would be a far better use than just chucking it away against Strictly.

Presumably the thinking behind last night was the same as putting Corrie at nine in BGT week, it worked once so they'll carry on doing that now forever to increasingly diminishing returns.

ITV2 getting 20th place with 1.4m is partially helped by ITV failing to reach that figure excluding +1 for a single show before 6.30pm. Though I don't deny that's a very good rating for Get Me Out of Here Now!

I'm A Celebrity had a very strong finish after a lacklustre second week, which I think was hurt by tough demographic opposition on both Tuesday and Wednesday alongside Jimmy leaving on Monday.

The X Factor bounced back after a poor Saturday but does anyone have the breakdown? Part of me wonders how much the final quarter boosted the show as people tuned in for I'm A Celebrity. Poor for Coronation. No, awful for Coronation Street.

BBC One had a very good night. Remember Me didn't disgrace itself against tough opposition and Strictly recorded a decent figure considering the increased opposition. Countryfile and Antiques Roadshow performed as well as ever.

The snooker picked up a good figure and Channel 4 remained steady. Where Eagles Dare didn't do anything unexpected.

Enjoyed the programme despite my team losing. When Jason took over Final Score I regarded him as just a regional presenter but he's very good. The BBC have brought some fresh thinking to the coverage, the pitch-side interviews while the games are in progress break new grounds, MOTD please note.

I've now obtained, and memorised the entire contents of, the Christmas Radio Times and I do think it's a strong schedule, aside from Tuesday 23rd there's something big on BBC1 every night of the fortnight. A few eccentric bits of scheduling on BBC2, most notably the Christmas episode of QI at 10.30 on Christmas Day which is opposite comedy on BBC1 and I think most viewers will not notice is there, especially when repeats appear to be in more prominent slots.

Thought it might be useful to mention the variations, in Scotland and Wales at least. This doesn't include Doctor Who, funnily enough, but in the discussion of regional variations on Christmas Day yesterday, you may be interested to know that 1973 Christmas Radio Times shows that BBC Wales opted out of Mike Yarwood on Christmas Day, showing it two days later, because of course up until Christmas 1981 they had to show Welsh language programmes as well. But by 1981, the last Christmas before S4C, all the Welsh language programming on Christmas Day was shown in a block from 9-11am on BBC2, while the network was off air.

Anyway, here are the major primetime changes over the fortnight...
* On Tuesday 23rd BBC Scotland have River City at 8pm as usual but because there's a repeat at nine they're showing Holby there, probably the best slot it's had in Scotland all year
* On Boxing Day BBC2 Wales are showing the making of Victoria Wood's musical at 8pm, immediately before it, while the network is showing it at 3.30 and repeating her ropey 2009 special at 8pm
* On Saturday 27th BBC1 Scotland are showing their own results programme as, unlike England, there's football that day. So Pointless is on at 5.10 and Kung Fu Panda 2 at 6.20
* On Sunday 28th BBC1 Scotland have a Commonwealth Games review at 6pm with Mastermind (from the day before) at 7pm and Countryfile at 8pm, with Antiques Roadshow not on at all
* The leftover Mastermind from Sunday is on Monday 29th at 8.30, instead of Miranda
* On Tuesday 30th it's River City at 8pm and Holby at 10.25, as usual
* On New Year's Eve BBC1 Scotland drop Mastermind and Indiana Jones, Mapp and Lucia and the news are all on half an hour earlier, before they opt out all night from 9.50. Doesn't look like they're showing Graham Norton at all

Actually it's a bit surprising what isn't getting a repeat, as not only is McIntyre not getting a repeat, but neither is Open All Hours, while the Not Going Out repeat on Christmas Day is actually last year's.

I'd say no matter how much money is spent on the show seeing Mrs. Biggs or Myra Hindley on screen, as it were, could still be upsetting for the victims families. It's humanising them and giving them depth (Ronnie more so than Mrs. Biggs, who did not commit the train robbery) - I'd argue the documentaries actually show the villains from a 'shallow' angle and don't leave room for sentiment or 'humanising'.


I guess Lauren Harries appearing in Celebrity Big Brother resulted in questions rightly being asked but she did cope reasonably well in the House. I'd argue Channel 4 were more exploitative in their years; particularly at their peak with Big Brother's 5, 6 and 7 treading on very thin ice.


The Benefits shows are very much of the same ilk on Channel 4. I do agree I think there's a feel of being desensitised by them though but I think the papers are as much to blame, if not more, than the TV channels as they bombard people with stories every day.

Forgive my late reaction to all this but it is quite a telling stat. Well beaten by Countryfile and pretty much crushed by Strictly. No matter that they are still immovable fixtures in the schedules these are strange and rather worrying times for soap as a genre.

No such problems for IAC though. Forget the slight reverse this year, its an amazing performance to keep so many people hooked night after night(and unbelievable imo that so many catch up) and to make "event" tv last three solid weeks. Still bemuses me but you cant argue with the figures. Its going to roll and roll it seems. And ITV, despite lacklustre soaps and you have to say unimaginative schedules, have had a decent boost to their share in the last three weeks.

Decent for XF but IAC has helped it and the natural pull of the fact that its a semi-final presumably brought back some of the curious.

Great Snooker last night and the final ep of Remember Me-all in all a memorable night of tv.

its sad to say it, but reality TV is still a thing, even that on ITV, people I actually like and think better of, will freely admit to watching at least some of it, far too much Strictly and Im a Celeb... talk in the break room today, but these people do look down on the celebs on the show, I simply dont get it.

As for the soaps, whilst I dont know what Corrie normally does on a Sunday, this thread has been very quiet about Corrie recently, far too much attention on EE, which I know has not won viewers back in the numbers hoped for, but its really an excellent watch at the moment, Corrie fans seem not to think the show is any good right now.

It is possible soaps have jumped the shark, over the hill etc, there certainly seems to be some evidence suggesting that, maybe they simply cant compete in the age of multi channel and the internet, and its finally hit them, but then if they cant, why can a show like Im a Celeb... which has almost zero redeeming features about it.

DS is out to tell the world how great Neighbours is at the moment, but based on discussion with real people today, it might as well not be on TV anymore, a fond memory nothing more, and I dont know if that is because its on Channel 5, but im sure that has not helped matters/
