Three-and-a-half. Maybe, they do have form: they ran a 46-minute Who in a 50-minute scheduled slot on 6 September (it ran 19:32-20:18); and a 45-minute one in a 50-minute scheduled slot on 20 September (19:33-20:18).


Nothing there to explain the change, then. Maybe it was something at Lottery HQ that necessitated going there early. Just guessing really.

My maths fail me again Even with the history of running DW in too long a slot it doesn't explain a last-minute change - a 46-minute episode of Doctor Who was never fitting into a 45-minute slot so it should always have been scheduled for 50 minutes. The only possible explanation I can see is that there was a last-minute edit of DW, but then as already alluded to earlier there was no obvious evidence of that in the actual broadcast..

I suspect we'll never know.

Dunno but its double what the launch show (for the auditions) got and nearly 5 times as many posts as the Strictly thread tonight (466 replies vs 2200 for XF).

EDIT: The real Strictly thread actually had over 1000, it had sunk quite far down the first page of the Strictly forum So not quite the thrashing, but still a lot more comments.

But then it is double the running time.

True, it is longer than the first auditions ep.

But it's about the same length as Strictly tonight though and beaten it convincingly in engagement. Whatever way you slice it 2200 replies is a good number for the first live shows.

There's a lot of buzz about a lot of the contestants. And the free voting is really taking off and empowering fans to vote some of whom might never have before. Engagement! It's a great thing seeing people say things "fell into place tonight" and they've "enjoyed the live shows for the first time in years."

They've successfully rendered the Barlow era a bad dream of a few years, to be forgotten.

Not sure about revamps they tend to have put more people off and finished off shows in the past like The Bill for instance. Cant really see Casualty being a big ratings winner again but still does a job as it is.

There's a lot to be said for a good judging panel and better contestants and that will show in the ratings. Possibly not tomorrow, but I predict going forwards. It has all the makings of a success this time round and is markedly improved on at least the last 3 years, if not 5.

Most of those posts were probably moaning about it.

By my calculations (seeing as last year's thread included Sunday's show), it is around 500 posts down on last year at this stage. Although last year's show included a flash vote and also most of the posts on that thread were people moaning about it being the worst live show ever. This year seems to have had a more positive reaction.

Yep, it's not fair to compare the threads if last year's was a thread for both nights. We'd have to add tomorrow night's thread to tonight's for the true comparison.

The reaction on Twitter, DS has been very positive and surprisingly people on my FB are talking about it which hasn't happened for at least 4 years.

Yes but I mean it's 500 down on where that thread was at this stage last year (ie. just after the Saturday live show).

Meh, I don't see it. It's been said already in this very thread this very evening that nobody who doesn't already watch The X Factor is going to start watching it now - it's been on so long that there's no casual 'ooh I wonder what this is like' audience left. With this in mind, short of being relieved of SCD clashes next week, an upwards curve in future XF ratings is so unlikely that's it's bordering on a waste of time to even dream of it. IMO.

That's understandable! No matter what I think TXF has got its mojo back. If it can't do well this year it never will IMO.
