Reports that Mel B will miss The X Factor Final as she is "seriously ill" and has been in hospital. Producers are apparently trying to find a guest judge to replace her. Of course The X Factor is known for publicity stunts but this seems strange.

Still Open All Hours faces Emmerdale on Boxing Day which, on the face of it, seems much tougher competition than last year's, the Harry Potter premiere. There feels like there's more of an audience crossover between SOAH and Emmerdale. Plus Emmerdale has already been shown at the cinema, on Sky Movies or on a best-selling DVD.
The biggest threat to SOAH's ratings is the reaction to last year's episode. I personally felt that no Arkwright left a great big hole in the comedy and they perhaps tried to pack too much into the episode. On the other hand, a lot of people like having some gentle, family-friendly comedy in the schedule and we remember My Family performing strongly in the ratings despite being critically mauled.
The second episode of SOAH, however, on Sunday the 28th, is on against Unbelievable Moments Caught On Camera.

which sounds like a strong contender for Lowest Rated Primetime ITV Programme Of The Entire Christmas Week. We might see Open All Hours rate higher on the Sunday than on Boxing Day.

I think if EastEnders is to get any boost they need to show the trailer in the right slots, in the past (apart from the Lucy trailer) they've either not shown them on tv at all or only shown them after EastEnders (to be seen by people who already watch EastEnders) or during the day. I don't think it's not a coincidence that the highest rating in a while came for an episode advertised between Strictly and Doctor Who's 50th (Kat and Roxy's wedding last year.)
Hopefully they show it before/after Strictly this weekend, and I still think next weekend, with the Strictly and The Apprentice finals, is their best chance to trail all their Christmas programmes.

All any of it confirms for me is just that there really isn't as much of an audience out there for live music as most people assume. As a little feature within a bigger show, sure - but two hours of primetime which was essentially just one act after another doesn't hold all that much interest, despite the hype. It's much like how the Glastonbury ratings never seem to chime with the amount of coverage it receives.
And it should surely put to bed the old chestnut about reviving Top of the Pops... If a much hyped, big name, two hour arena show can't muster 4m - what would happen to a little weekly studio show!

In fairness, The BBC awards were awful, I love Live music but the lineup was awful, it reminded me of Smash Hit awards years ago, still I think it is great to see Live music on main stream TV, and it is a bit of variety in the schedule, better than another mediocre documentary style program.

For once it's not a publicity stunt. She missed the press conference on Thursday and it's been confirmed by the media and Mel's husband that Tulisa will stand in for her at the final.

But surely the equivalent night last year was also one of the main Christmas party nights and Corrie was over 1m higher that night.

Wow! That's a drop from last year for the ITV soaps. EastEnders rating isn't great but at least it didn't drop this year.
The Christmas soap ratings could go in any direction.
