X Factor up on last week. Happy with that.

There's something painfully obvious that people notice first though, which sort of makes your point irrelevant.

The X Factor down 0.4m; Strictly down over 1m year-on-year. The extended clash didn't help either of them, really.

Why did "Doctor Who" increase?

Do they? I thought they didn't. My bad... is it overnights.tv that doesn't include it?

XF down half a million from last year, not good. SCD was down but that was from a high base level. XF was down from a low base level.

So The X Factor has actually almost halved the gap compared to last year.

Work to do for XF, tonight's rating will be very interesting.

Great for Doctor Who.

Really great to see Doctor Who rise, and it looks like Casualty wasn't affected by the schedule change. Strictly was always going to be hit by the clash as well, but still a decent rating for it.

Have we really taken to insulting one of the few posters who actually provide ratings? This thread really is a mess, and it's not just Samuel who's to blame.

Glad DW was over 5 million last night without doubt one of the best episodes this series.
PC really came into his own and a solid story with cast.

Strictly is down 1.2m year on year.


#StrictlyComeDancing peaked last night at 7.55pm with 9.32m/40.8%. #TheXFactor peaked at 8.40pm with 9.27m/38.9% (including +1).

Strictly fails to meet 8.8m "target." Alarm bells should be ringing.

Two comments there - many people on the SCD forum feel that that this is the strongest lineup for some time, in that there are quite a number of celebs showing promise and/or talent (rather than simply one outstanding celeb and a couple of contenders). Secondly, there always have to be a few duffers, otherwise you would get people complaining that xxxx should not have been eliminated in show 2, 3 or 4. Sometimes a duffer can gain incredible support if they can be seen to be progressing and/or have a very good partnership, even if they never become a real contender.

And of course, there simply has to be the acknowledged comedy celeb who tries their hardest (this time it seems to be Scott Mills)

I think maybe some people didn't bother with The X Factor as it was already an hour into the show and decided to catch up either post Who or today instead.

Last night's episode was the best in the series for me so I'll be interested to see what happens next week.

Absolutely most important rating of the night for me and nice to see it over 5m again.

Strictly down by 1.2m isn't good whichever way you spin it, really.

Looks like Strictly failed to reach the target rating last night. The BBC won't be happy with that. Looks like the overly bloated show with 5 judges and all the good dancers at the end, didn't work out.

Digital Spy report the +1 figure separately from the main channel figure.

Wasn't an insult, I just got it confused with a different source that never includes +1. Quickly corrected myself and admitted the mistake. Move on...

So it's all about spinning whichever way you want...Strictly down massively on last year in number AND share; X Factor not so much and holding up better than some expected but still the overall loser although with that latter point no one expected anything else.

We will see how last night's X Factor really came across in the coming weeks now but overall not a terrible result given what could have happened and taking into account Strictly's huge drop.

Glad to see Doctor Who up. I'm already bored of X Factor and Strictly...


Rising on the back of a run of really well received episodes. Plus they had a pretty big moment at the end of last week which may have pushed some to watch earlier than usual.

It might have had something to do with it being a theme night - people know to expect props galore and some silly costumes that detract from the dance (all of which we got)
