SCD only 7m at 6.30pm - doesnt that indicate it started too early?

Comedy is a vital ingredient in the "Strictly Come Dancing" mix, so Tess needs to either go back to the scoreroom or be replaced by a comedian. The audience could potentially be just tuning in for entertainment and comedy between the host and panel if they arent too keen on dancing I would guess at?

SCD started earlier last week. Between 6.30-7.30pm, SCD was down 0.5million this week.

Here is some analysis for XF:

Last week, the first half an hour of XFactor between 8-8.30pm averaged 6.5million. This week, the first half an hour of XFactor between 7.30-8pm averaged 6.35m.

So even though XF started half an hour earlier last night, its first 30min average was almost on a par to last week when it started at "the better time of 8pm". What does this prove?

Well, it shows that perhaps airing XF in a regular 7.30pm slot would not be such a bad idea. The first half an hour will always rate low around the mid 6's whether it starts at 7.30pm or 8pm, anyway.

But at least from Itv's perspective, if it begins at 7.30pm, it finishes pre-10pm so less of a drag down of the average when it goes past 9.15pm. And also they do more damage to SCD's average too by starting it 7.30pm rather than 8pm due to the greater overlap limiting SCD's peak potential.

Heavy rain forecast in London and other places from about 4-5pm onwards tonight and into tomorrow.

Could help push ratings up. If that doesn't do it, the clocks changing in 2 weeks will force people indoors after 6pm

I know people are talking about declines... but looking at SCD here, those ratings are pretty good imo. 7:15 onwards it was consistently at 9 million+

Basically, both started too early which is why the averages are down?

Last Saturday's breakdown : http://forums.digitalspy.co.uk/showp...ostcount=13386

X Factor averaging only -0.1m or so lower in the 19:30-20:00 period that it did for 20:00-20:30 last week! That's quite surprising. The +1 channel must have helped there.

There are a few small differences between your breakdown and the one cited by Samuel, btw, only 0.1m here and there.

Basically the statistics prove that starting at 7.30pm for XF would actually help XF remain closer to SCD in the ratings average than starting XF at 8pm (in the including +1 figures).

XF starting at 7.30pm only dented XF's first 30min average by 0.2m week on week. But it dented SCD's 7.30-8pm average by about 0.8m week on week!

I said Bradley Walsh ages ago. He would've been good.

Just put Claudia out the front.

With people who watch all of Strictly AND all of X Factor, where people record X Factor and start watching it at the end of Strictly so they can zap through the ads, how does this get recorded in the 15 minute breakdown? Like if they are watching the beginning of X Factor delayed, does it get added to the 7.30 bit anyway, so they are recorded as watching both channels at the same time?

Yep he definately would be great! Or Claudia. The figures may also rise with a new host, you could see a boost in audience numbers tuning in for someone like Bradley

X Factor is down for 8-10pm next week. For some reason I thought it ended at 10.20pm.

According to your schedules? Not according to RadioTimes.

Possibly. On the other hand it may just be a slow switch on brought about by the first 15 minutes of Strictly (and these shows in general) not containing the most vital of content. Having just checked on iPlayer first contestant didn't start performing until about 12 minutes in last night. I suspect the same is likely true for The X Factor last night as well (I didn't time it).

And yes the first 15 minutes really is where these shows could take a decent chunk off their run times.

Bradley Walsh is hosting Keep It In The Family which starts on Sunday 26th October against Strictly Come Dancing. Watch it get killed off in the ratings.

Agreed, and in Strictly's case, even though the format might be broadly similar, the different celebs and the partnerships change the general dynamic each series.

So after going through a confused period this week of not being entirely sure when The X Factor was supposed to start now we're going to have confusion over when it ends next week? This is perhaps more entertaining than the show itself.

Perhaps now it's a double elimination this week they've shortened next week's show?

Or is RT often wrong?

I was caught out like that for the ratings game but digiguide and ITV both have it finishing at 10.20pm. Considering they're cutting two acts tonight plus they won't need the wildcard introduction next week there's no reason why it can't be slimmed to 2 hours in my opinion.

I always thought starting an hour off Strictly's end time would work but I think they need to push +1 a lot more for it to have full effect.
