Agreed. I think Corrie and Emmerdale will recover tonight, around 7.8m and 6.5m and EE around 7.2m.

I am the sort of person who doesn't need to compare anything. I found tonights episode funny but I also found it uncomfortable - in a good way. I appreciate your recommendation but as I haven't seen the LWT version (or at least can't remember seeing it), then I see no reason to see it. I am perfectly with this current adaptation.

The reason we're always disappointed with TV these days is that we're always comparing everything to what came before. I remember when ITV brought out Marple and everyone exclaimed it was rubbish because they automatically compared it to Joan Hickson's series. They were dismissing the fact that ITV's Marple was perfectly pleasant and enjoyable viewing. It wasn't necessary to mourn for the Hickson era because what we were getting was a version geared for a 21st Century audience. Whilst I remember several 80's shows with great affection and fondness, many of them when watched now, are awfully dated.

I can think of worse, particularly Waterloo and Young Winston that ITV used to tokenly show as they knew they'd be crushed by Morecambe and Wise. Three hours of people playing soldiers badly, no thank you.
I've been away for most of the season, but until catch up and I players are taken into account, this has been the most disappointing Christmas Day for ratings ever. It wasn't that the programmes and scheduling were that bad, ITV wisely just stuck to three drama/soap hits for the big night and BBC One's mixture of comedy, sci fi, chat and period drama was diverse enough, just not many people seemed to be watching..

It depends on the equipment folks have.

Well, I watched it on my cheap 42" LCD HD Ready TV via a HD Freeview+ box. Nothing particularly out of the ordinary.

The wolf program on BBC2 and the Royal Christmas Lectures on BBC4 was quality TV tonight.

Totally agree, and with a nice upbeat ending to boot.

LED is the problem - too small inadequate speakers. Need separate sound bars to hear BBC drama properly. It's recorded on too sophisticated equipment for bog standard tv's.

The fact the BBC oddly scheduled it five minutes later than ITV's offering may cause some viewers to not bother.”

I cannot believe that ANYBODY would not watch Mapp and Lucia just because it started at five past the hour. That would be ridiculous.

Emmerdale and first Corrie were both on against The Muppets so that might peg them back a bit.

I have seen the trailer several times. I suppose it depends whether you watch BBC1 at all.

I don't think ITV have been promoting Benidorm that much either but then again I haven't watched much on ITV recently.

From reading the Angus Deaton thread it helped, most people gave " epic fails" five minutes saw the clips were very old and switched over.
