Fantastic for EE. Looks like Christmas Day and Boxing Day did its job of enticing some casual viewers back. Hopefully it can hold up well over the week, especially with the big New Year's Day episode. Also amazing that it's the first show to crack 8m overnight so far in the Christmas TV period.

Wow. Fantastic for EE! The first 8m rating of the Christmas period I think as well (in terms of average).

And I think that's EE's highest since April? Someone on here will know.”

Its funny that, because I was thinking an hour or so ago "they should have aired an episode of EastEnders on Sunday". Shows how wrong I was!

Great number, relatively speaking, capitalising clearly on last week and has hooked a few extra viewers who may have watched later on iPlayer.

Unfortunately for BBC, Muppets was very low and Mapp and Lucia did not do much better.

Emmerdale did well, but shares looking low.

You see I think would have done a lot better in the Christmas Day slot - nice easy family-friendly post-Christmas lunch and Queen viewing, with a bit of nostalgia for viewers who are old enough to remember the Muppets first time around. By rights, Puss in Boots should have in its place last night instead.

Or maybe they're just not very popular. Their latest film earlier this year was a massive flop and this one wasn't much of a hit either.

I suspect like Variety shows (Hall of fame/ Sunday night at the Palladium) they're not as loved by the public as they are with TV anoraks.

All 3 soaps doing well there. EE ahead of Corrie again. It's too early to see whether this is a turning point for EE or whether Corrie will soon go above it once more. ED bounced back very nicely after a tough day on Friday.

I have a feeling that the forum would've been a bit less jubilant had it been Corrie topping 8m .

I didn't expect that. I wonder how New Years Day will do I expect mid 7's due to clash with Birds.

That's EE biggest rating since Tuesday 22nd April (Lucy Beale death aftermath episode - 8.39m).

The Muppets was fairly well trailed and the slot was, unsurprisingly, not as bad as some are making out, so if people wanted to watch it they would have. The interest was simply not there.

Excellent for EastEnders, almost makes up for the disappointing Mapp and Lucia rating which allows for even more gloating on here.

BBC1 has had a poor Christmas. A lot based on bad scheduling. Some Christmas commissions looked poor too.

The soaps not quite as dead as many like to spin

All credit to DTC and all on EE, they have worked really hard to turn things round, Timothy West has been superb (even The Sun acknowledged that today), looks like 2015 is going to be a good year for them.

Indeed it's a shame they can't roll out the "it should have been on a Monday" excuse.

Deserved good rating for EastEnders.

But the rating from Sweden is awesome.

In Germany the best rating on Christmas Eve was a music show (ZDF, 20:15) with 2.99m (14,1%) followed by the movie Home Alone 2 (Sat1, 22:25) with 2.69m and Home Alone (Sat 1, 20:15) with 2.48m.

Christmas Day: Helene Fischer Show (kind of music and show) won the day with 6.56m (21,4%) (ZDF, 20:15), followed by Tagesschau (news) with 4.61m (16,9%; ARD, 20:00) and the movie Snow White and the Huntsman (RTL, 20:15) with 3.85m (12,2%).

In the States NBC traditionally shows the classic movie It's a Wonderful Life and won Christmas Eve with it again this year.

I don't think there will be much gloating because there wasn't really anybody bigging up M&L as a potential big ratings hit.

No, but people have been going on about how much of a flop it would be for weeks and were sadly proven right. Ah well, I still enjoyed it and I'm looking forward to the next episode.

EE - Excellent rating. Story lines currently very good.
The Muppets - Yesterdays news, why bring it back.
Xmas Epic Fails - Deserved rating for a rubbish ITV show

Tuesday used to be EE's strongest day. It used to rise anything over 400k after Monday's ep and pull in the strongest shares. Look what happened the week after Lucy's death.

What the soap ratings show particularly for Corrie, (that although low in comparison to the last few years) some viewers have returned to it despite the poor quality.

I think what's happening is that people are not watching a channel anymore, they are choosing to watch a specific programme.

Just as in the past, most TV programming is mostly awful. This means people will not be choosing to watch much of anything, hence the low ratings.

TV needs to get back to being a social hub, quickly!

Looks to be like the next day rpt has killed off any big rise in the officials. Does anyone know what rating the Downton Abbey rpt got on Boxing Day please?
