Greg James is ok, but Gemma Cairney?? Expect viewers to say bring back Bleakley, Kaplinsky, Logan, Silverton, Jones or indeed any other female BBC1 presenter in the past. If she's commentating over the fireworks it will be a car crash.

If we were talking about an ITV drama then 'burn it off over Christmas' would be an excuse, but this isn't the case for BBC1. Christmas is peak season for them where only the best programming airs.

Despite the usual moans about the scheduling, very strong for Harry Potter again and only 0.1m below the film premiere on BBC1. You can see why they keep showing them, I doubt much else has got 4m on a Tuesday on ITV for a while.
