The return of The Voice actually merited a news item on BBC Breakfast today.

R4 Today had a discussion in a peak 8.20am slot all about ITV's Broadchurch!

Slow news day evidently....

Channel Troll and their wacky hijinks!

They should bring back 'Heil Honey I'm Home', perfect sunday night entertainment.

OK for the two dramas but would have liked both to be a bit higher. I think Foyle dented Countryfile a little too. Still Open All Hours has a very nice slot which is working out well for it.

I thought Foyles was terribly dull and earnest. Could see it dropping a bit actually next week.

All three have similar appeal so no surprise Foyle's War, Countryfile and Last Tango were close.

Still Open has a very cushy slot but people DO want to watch it.

Countryfile was a compilation. Foyle's down 2m on 2013 opener.

It will forever remain a mystery to me that 6 million people, having seen the laugh free zone that was the first episode of SOAH, have returned for 2 further episodes.

However, it is clearly doing very well, and comedy is a very subjective thing.

Didn't Foyle drop heavily in week 2 last time? I seem to remember it settling in the 5s. Plus Countryfile/Last Tango is probably tougher competition (and has more crossover) than Antiques Roadshow/The Village.

As you are aware of the bit in bold, you will also be aware that the underlined bit is an opinion not a fact.

I am aware that SOAH has a very cushy slot, but I doubt very much that Citizen Khan or Big School would have got anywhere near 6m in the same place.

My 86 year old Dad finds in vaguely amusing. I think the nostalgia element is key here. What is the age demographic?

It is. Although I have misgivings, it makes me laugh and we need more comedy like this. That's why people are watching - it's watchable and amusing.

Very good rating for this. It's recorded but I haven't watched it yet.

How did Bambi (5:35pm) and House at the End of the Street (9pm) do for Channel 5?
